I think I have known it all along-even though they have paid invoices, they have been for relatively small amounts and we have kept cramming work in because….well, I’m not sure now, other than the nice feeling of being insanely busy.

Ignore his threats, do not finish this project without pay.
You are being professional by refusing to work for the pay that you were promised.
In the future, put a contract in place, but don’t worry about this job – your career isn’t going to be threatened by a client who can’t/won’t pay you for an agreed rate.

You don’t owe these people a finished product, you owe them an assembly edit. Deliver that with watermarks and ask for immediate payment.
It’s up to you whether you finish the job for free or for whatever extra cash you can get, but I would suggest walking away. Do not give them your edited footage without watermarks until you have been paid and the cheque has cleared and if they ask you to finish, tell them you want a basic contract putting in place for payment versus time.
The people in charge of this project will happily take advantage of you as long as you let them. Don’t!

We use yousendit. Seems to be working pretty well so far. Like the desktop app and the tracking you can do to see if someone has downloaded the file.
The iphone app is pretty frustrating (should allow tracking etc), but all in all its good.

I’ll have to try and find some dulling or Krylon spray. We can’t steel wool the ball because they know it will scratch it and stop it looking brand new!

I’m going to spend every spare waking minute of the next month putting together specific examples of what we can do to help the business of 3 clients I want to work for. I’m then going to spend 11 months hassling them until I get some work from them.
In 12 months time I’m hopefully going to have done 1 large project for 1 of them, and 1 small project for another.
Other than that, twitter, linkedin, facebook, youtube…..yawn!

Hang on. Man invents first ever car and with it changes the lives of every man, woman and child around the world inexplicably and forever.
Men and women invent FCPX and it changes a few thousand video editors lives around the world and allows millions more to have a go for £299. FCPX doesn’t deliver anything more than other top NLE available today, does it?
It’s just not the same.

I’ve used Premiere Pro for years. From version 1.5 right the way through every version until CS6. I also used to run FCP7.
I just purchased a new Macbook Retina 15″ and I’m running CS6 suite on it – it’s VERY impressive. I’ve installed FCPX on there because it is only £200 and it allows me to export ProRes files for post work. I can see it is very slick, but being used to CS6 already I can’t find a reason to use FCPX instead…..
