Yes sorry – I added up wrong. 1 x 4 is most definitely 4. So the iMac has the same GPU memory as the base spec Mac Pro but on one GPU, not two. This will obviously make a difference in Resolve, but will it make a fundamental difference to the way that AE, CC or FCPX works?

What’s in the box:
Power Cord
Mac Pro
Dust!
Air!
Packing Material!!!
Silica Gel!!!
….If you look at the 4 core model vs the iMac, you can spec the imac with an i7, 32Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD, a free keyboard and mouse, an 8GB GPU and a bundled monitor and that comes to £2708. The 4 core model is £2499 for 4Gb GPU and 12gb RAM.
Unless the Mac Pro 4 or 6 core absolutely slaughters that iMac in performance, how much are they going to be stepping on their own toes with pricing in the next 2 months after release?
And yes, yes, I know the Mac Pro has more thunderbolt ports and hdmi 1.4….

Only the cheese costs 4 months rent. Lean times at mouse house.

Yes, well done Tim. Every thread was turning into a childish bitch fest!!!!!! and I was tired of digging my dictionary out to try and understand what a hominem was.
I still assume a straw man is some sort of reference to a farmer?

The only thing to add to this, is that the hard drive was the 250Gb SSD.
Still, very aggressive pricing for what could be a very fast mac. I’d love to see some benchmarks at some point soon, but they will no doubt arrive. I don’t think they will stop us purchasing, but might affect how much extra we spend on top of a minimum 6 core spec….

Thanks very much for all of your suggestions. The client is being very specific about the look of each individual element – even the dots have to look right! Hence them sending over an agreed photoshop file that I need to animate from.
Seems as though the best way to do it is having multiple instances of the layer and then have a mix of 2 suggestions. The expression is great for the representation of traffic at a steady speed, but when we want to accelerate, I’ll dissolve to a faster version.
Thanks!

Just had some pretty definitive business prices – indeed it seems that the 12 core machine, with top spec GPU and 64GB RAM will be less than £7500.
For a 6 core machine with dual 3GB GPU and 32Gb RAM it will be around £4600.
Very impressive.
