November 26, 2014 at 8:28 pm in reply to: Recovering video when switching slots during filming and first clip is corrupt. That worked..
I used Catalyst, clicked the file that wouldnt play or import and then file, transcode.. 720p internet,
Its about a 3rd the sie of the original but the whole amount of footage is there.
In Catalyst there are 4 of the 7 files with exclamation marks and what looks like green lines scratched on the preview…
This file was not critical but its nice to know that files can be recovered if you still have it on the camera and it corrupts when you imported it.
Thanks a lot

Will check this out tonight.. The file is just under 4gb so would take forever to upload to you, hopefully Catalyst will work.

Dave, thanks for the reply..
[Dave Osbun] “What happens if you use the video clips in their native format? Vegas Pro should be able to play the files without converting them beforehand. Do they not play at all?”
The AVCHD files play fine in their native format, the issue is converting those AVCHD files to mp4 in main concept. The mp4 files it throws out are seemingly corrupt, if i try and bring those converted mp4 files created from AVCHD into vegas it just hangs or crashes and the preview on the timeline is just complete green screen. The AVCHD are both from different cameras, an EX1R and a CX360ve both Sony and i think its in 50fps… which i make sure is in the properties then in the renders i make sure its converting to 25fps.
[Dave Osbun] “Where are these video clips being stored? On an external drive or an internal drive? Since your GPU as the ‘m’ designation, you’re obviously using a laptop. Does this laptop have one internal system drive or two? Is it an SSD drive or an ‘old school’ drive, and what type of drive if it’s an old school drive?
“Internal drive, i only have one internal drive and its old school drive Device SCSI\Disk&Ven_ATA&Prod_TOSHIBA_MQ01ABD100 .
I do have a 2TB Toshiba Estor.e external portable drive which i store a lot of my HD masters on but i usually drag those on the laptop and work with them there then drag the converted files onto the Estor.e to archive.
So the only problem is converting AVCHD to MP4 in Main Concept in Vegas, those converted files do not play back IN VEGAS and they crash other editing software etc and they crash Vegas too. If i convert the avchd using sony avc to mp4 its all fine…
As ive said i have 20 jobs all in main concept mp4s ive just found out are corrupt as i was doing a montage from those mp4s but vegas freezes and crashes, all i see in the timeline is a green preview but vegas is not responding and needs to be restarted. Note i never installed any codec packs until this issue had arisen so that will not be the cause.
So AVCHD to mp4 in vegas is the issue for me and the resulting mp4s all useless athough they play fine in WMP or VLC but vegas cannot handle or play them back without crashing.

PS NVidia GT630M card, 8 gig of ram, i7 Win8 over 500GB of free hard drive space.
I’ve also done the cardinal sin since this problem surfaced, i installed k lite as a desperate last attempt to solve it and removed shark codecs, i know i will be uninstalling it soon and re installing shark.

October 23, 2014 at 2:16 pm in reply to: Importing / Joining multiple EX1R 50 FPS MP4 filesThanks for that Ian.
I have just tried Premiere Pro and it did indeed join the files. Will it save it as a whole file without rendering a new file? Or do i have to render a new video or find something to join them?

Hi John
Just an update, after shooting with the Z7 i didnt like the HDV format or the footage although its obviously a decent camera.
What i did next was to buy an EX1R and i have to say it is stunning. Have spent a few weeks testing and also looking at Doug Jensen’s videos and on line forums and i love it.
Low light is footage is superb, it handles panning fine and i am absolutely delighted with it.
So far i have only used 1280 50fps but i have read that i should test 50i 1920×1080 for fast motion filming so will test that this week.

You need HD output?
I have an EX1R and the easiest way is this.
Get an EZYCap or VCAP305 usb grabber , connnect that from the AV out socket on the EX1R, other end (once connecting the AV out cable to the grabber via connectors supplied) into the USB on your laptop and your laptop will recognise that and you can stream within seconds, i do it myself this way when i want to live stream on the fly via UStream or XSplit/Twitch etc.

Went pretty well with the Z7, no hunting issues, just the video was a bit blown and need to get the settings/profiles right for the different conditions such as sunny or evening under lights..
Think i will be happy with this camera.

Thats great
Yep the z7 is tape based but i have a cf flash recording unit too so its file based, i hate tape.
Have had an offer for my Z7 which means i can get the NX5 for almost the same money.
Slightly scared as the footage is great from the prosumer camera 28mbps 50fps avchd very very clear even slow mo but i aspire to be better. I think the NX5 will help me but i need to hit the ground running and at least be able to provide clear non blurry/shallow DOF and no poorly autofocused footage at the start while i get to learn the camera, thats my only fear.
I do have 2 or 3 games where i have a free hit to try out things.
Thanks for your help John.

John
Thanks for that
I’ve always shit with a point and shoot prosumer camera so although i’m very good at filming football, the better cameras worry me that when using autofocus that it will blur and hunt.
You are giving me confidence to go for it.
I have a game tomorrow night i might even take the Z7 out but its under floodlights and ive never used the camera. I love the look of the NX5, would you suggest that it will be a better bet than the z7?
I am not worried about losing a little bit of money by selling the z7 and buying the NX5.
