The channel condition lights are either green, yellow or red. It is a visually measure of the error rate on the record stream.

There is error correction built into the deck, so a low error rate is unlikely to show up on playback. When the condition is red, it is time to have the machine that did the record looked at by a maintenance engineer.

Stib’s plug-ins include an arrow generator that would probably work for you. Generators show up in the same place as the text tools (little a in a film strip lower right of the Viewer.)

If know photoshop you could create lines there and import them to FCP.

If you need the linse to animate you may be into using Motion or After Effects.

There are probably other solutions out there as well, that I’m not aware of.

To get your Effects tab back in your browser…

    Window > Effects or Command – 5.

You were most likely dragging your transitions from this window to your timeline. I’m not sure why you were getting and “operation not allowed” message when you tried to work around your Effects Tab disappearance.

There are a few things that can go wrong when trying to add transitions, like not having sufficient handles on the clips or not having the play head positioned at the transition point. I don’t think these were your issue.

Go back to your previous workflow and see if the problem persists. If you want to do some independent reading go to Help > Final Cut Pro User Manual. Type transitions in the search field. The most relevant stuff starts at ll-375. If none of this solves the problem, write back.

I would check out the link in my post above. Shane explains how to import the files on the P2 cards into FCP very clearly. It is the fourth tutorial on the list. The third one down may also be of interest to someone working with DVCPRO HD.

Shane Ross has a video turorial for handling p2 cards, it that is what you mean.

A more complete answer depends on how much footage you are shooting, in what video format, at what frame rate, as well as what recording media you are using, and how you are delivering the final product.

I believe your problem is the long sequence. To make sure, start a small sequence in a new project and see if FCP is snappier. You could just buy a shiny new computer and load it to the gills with memory, but…

If I were in your situation, I would first back up your project in its current state. This will give you a reference back to this point if you need it later

This may help. Projects aren’t backwards compatible unless you use xml.

April 4, 2006 at 8:09 pm in reply to: browser Missing

    Hi,

Please don’t take offense. I’m stumped, so I wrote to confirm what you are doing to eliminate the obvious.

Command-4 to open and close the browser window.

Control-U to reset the windows to their default positions.

And these are the three files to delete for preferences…

    systemHD/users/username/library/preferences/”com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist”
    systemHD/users/username/library/preferences/FCP user data/preferences file
    systemHD/users/username/library/preferences/FCP user data/poa cache file

I hope you find a solution. If you do please post back.
