It was possibly shot as 24 over 30 with pulldown added to fill out the frames. It might be possible to reverse telecine it back to 24 fps using software like the old Cinema Tools that came with Final Cut Studio.

If your converter outputs SD-SDI, which it appears to do, it should be able to use the scopes to look at the signal. Make sure that your converter is set to SD-SDI (480i is 720×480 or 720×486 depending on it’s firmware). 720p is not standard definition-it’s an HD format. You need to set your converter to 480i in order for the scoped to take in the signal.

Yes the specs for the converter do indicate that it should output SD-SDI (480i). I notice that on the photos there are buttons for Mode and Format. Are you sure that these are set properly for standard definition? What are you using for an input to the unit?

Your TEK 1731 should accept analog inputs. If you feed it a composite signal it should work fine. Your TEK-601 will be looking for standard definition SDI inputs. What analog to digital converter are you using? Brand/model?

Make sure that you use a ND filter to keep the aperture from being too small-f16 or smaller. I’ve noticed on some Panasonic cameras that when the lens is closed down too far, the quality of the picture suffers greatly. It much depends on the size and type of the sensors. Try to keep the lens setting at around 5.6 or so. This seems to be the sweet spot for many cameras. Dial in some ND, get the iris open wider and see if it helps with the fixed pattern noise.

I don’t believe that this camera supports use with the traditional control panels used on professional Panasonic cameras, but it does look like it supports limited control through a Wi-Fi connection using apps for external devices like an iPad.
It looks like it probably supports some control through a LANC or similar connection as well.

Does your camera have a Firewire port? Why not bypass the ADVC100 and just go straight in through Firewire from the camera? Converting to analog and then back to digital will only degrade the video.

It’s sad, Bob but most of the people reading this right now have no idea of what you just said. “Timing”…what’s that mean? I used to keep the timing in my suites really “tight” but, in so many ways, it just doesn’t matter anymore. I was telling one of the crew guys how we used to register tube cameras back in the day and his response was “But why would you even need to do this?”
It’s a whole different world now…

If you aren’t Gen-locking the unit to an external reference, they really don’t do anything.

If the pops aren’t too frequent, you can sometimes minimize the popping bu expanding the audio waveform and manually setting keyframes to quickly drop the level and then bring it right back up again. It won’t completely eliminate them but it can minimize their effect.
