Video is filmed in true 16:9. Strange is that under the media preferences the pixel aspect ratio shows as PAL DV Widescreen but if I try to use that as a pixel aspect ratio under project preferences then I get a squashed render. If I use PAL DV then I get a black stripe above the movie and below but at least the movie is in 16:9. Here are my settings:

    Project properties
    – template: PAL DV
    – pixel aspect ratio: 1.0926 PAL DV
    – preview device, output format: PAL DV Widescreen

Ok, so that is strange but at least I get the right 16:9 format. The other problem is that when I render to a mpeg2 format it will not show in Mediaplayer or on my DVD. On my WinDVD it works but not on Windows Media Player or on Quick time. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your feedback. No, the make movie button is no shortcut to success. There is like a thousand options available of which I have absolutely no clue.

Thanks for your input guys. What is “running a script”? Also dont understand the custom render advantage!

BTW, where do you reccomend I buy the software as a download only option.

The mpeg2 option stated that there would be no audio?

Mike, thanks for your input. My media properties are 1.4568 pal dv widescreen 720x576x24 but if I put the project properties to match I get squashed frame captures when pasted into paint shop pro as picktures. If I set the project properties to 1,0926 (PAL DV) PAL DV (720×576; 25,000 fps) I can see two black stripes up and down in the preview window but frameshots pasted into paint shop pro gives me that exact same view with the black stripes above and below leaving the actual frame capture or photo if you so like intact and in perfect aspect ratio. Am I doing something wrong? Result this way is correct but not sure when I render it to a video.

  • If the music is playing in your project and windows media player plays other sound files then the sound track has been most likely lost as a result of you choosing a wrong kind of format for proper playback in windows media player. This has happened to me as well but Ive solved it by choosing a higher quality option or by changing to other format.
