And to hook up the monitor? A second video card? Is there a post or article somewhere that describes this entire process?

There is no option “Bypass” anything. Neither in the Preview window, or in Options/Preferences.

Can you be more specific? (like “click here, click there, look at that checkbox)

also, run dxdiag, and be sure your directx is configured and tests out properly.
