    Hi there!

It looks like I probaly find the least work intensive workaround to this problem. At least in case of close encounters with Premiere Pro or Aftereffects.

I messed with Premiere Pro CS6 XML project exchange with a help of Xto7. Projects translated well. Opened in PP. But back home in FCP X I find a lo of red “Media modified” screens… PP did it’s black “Write XMP ID” metadata change job. If you got PP on a system with FCP X – turn off this feature imediately. It’s easily findable in PP’s settings. In Aftereffects too!

But fortunately I had previously exported FCP X’s event as XML. And it linked to the changed files! And it linked to spoiled events exported as XML’s and imported back to FCPX.

By the way, in this situation in FCP X 10.0.6 reimporting media from Camera Archive does’n help. The moment FCP X daclares it “modified” again – it dissapears from Event’s Original folder at all!

    So, workaroud looks like this:

    1. You see “Media modified” sign. You are scared.
    2. Do not freak out. Maybe this will work: export Event with “modified” media as XML.
    3. Move original Event to another folder, usually – “Final Cut Events Not in Use”.
    4. Import this XML back to FCP X.
    5. Now move or copy the media from original Event’s “Original Media” folder to newly imported XML’s “Original Media” folder.
    6. At this point most of media in XML’s Event should be self reconnected.
    7. Open the reimported XML’s Event’s “Original Media” folder – there should be some media files with “(fcp1).mov” suffix. Rename them to “(id).mov” suffix.
    8. Mostly all media should be relinked now.
    9. If there are still some unlinked files, in FCP X open Inspector’s Info tab and turn on “Show File Status” mode with little Gear icon at the lower right corner. Now you can see the exact name of the media file should be the clip is linked to.
    10. Go to Original Media folder inside the Event and look for those file names – maybe you should add or remove some “(id)” suffixes.
    11. If you do not see files with such names – go to Import Media and import media files again.
    12. If all mentioned above doesn’t help – just fill the feedback form in “Final Cut Pro” menu.

They ARE LISTENING. They contacted me recently about some bug I found.

    Do the feedback. It works.

By the way – you loose all Smart Collections through roundtriping to XML and back, but it’s better than manual replacement of the media in feature film projet… 🙂

I hope it will help. Please spread around this technique while FCP X guys are fixing it up.

  • It was my firs idea too, but in my case I found the workaround.

You see, I have the mono channels sound recorded on one cam. My workflow is as follows:

    1. I create multiclip. In my case only two cameras mostly non stop recording. Timecode of Multicam clip is the same as CAM A, on which is the dual mono audio recorded.

    2. I put the multicam clip into empty Compound with the same starting Time Code. Silence the audio on multicam clip with level slider.

    3. I put the CAM A clip into the same Compound as attached clip. If I follow the same TC routine, audio sync on Multiclip and newly added CAM A clip should be OK.

    4. I select CAM A clip audio channels to be Dual Mono and Break Apart Clip Items. Now I have Attached video and dual mono channels. Delete the CAM A video.

    5. Now we have a compound with Multiclip Video and attached dual mono audio tracks.

    6. Edit the dialog with Compound clip for the first pass.

    7. On the edited timeline Break Apart Clip Items of the Compound. You get the edited timeline with multicam video and attached dual audio channels.

    8. For the second pass you edit clip angles and dual mono audio clip levels and filters.

BTW. You can color balance multicam clip video angles before editing or after editing, but you can spare a lots of clicks if you put some general audio filters inside Compound on audio tracks before editing.

I hope I was clear enough to understand and it helps. Until Apple fixes the audio workflow issues. I red somewhere it is to be addressed later this year.

Do not hesitate to ask if something still not clear.

  • Shure this is valid workaround. And dirty. Yak… 🙂

It doesn’t matters on some occasional edit. But on the regular TV project it’s gonna make me go mad…
I was so eager to switch the edit to FCP X.
It looks like I’m gonna stick with 7 for some time more. Again.

Feedback form is only our hope now… :)))

  • Yes, thanks. I knew this way and checked it before posting.

I have in mind – how to access dual mono on the storyline – if you please – after you did the angle cut?

Well, simple scenario – two cams. Walking outside. Two peole having a conversation. Each has a radio microphone pinned up. Sound is recorded respectively to one camera’s audio track one and track two.

I cut muticam using one camera’s sound track. Now I want to refine audio, clean some bumps and sounds from one or another mono chanel…. Cant find how…

It’s allready edited. Multicam. On Storyline. I can not find how to detach/separate dual mono tracks on the storyline from multiclip.

    Hi all.

I found no way to access separate audio channels on multiclip on the timeline. There is no way of detaching them in timeline as you usually do with simple clips if you want to work with separate channels.

You can only turn of/on a right or left mono channel on original clips engaged in multiclip.

Or I am missing something, or Apple is.

Motion 5 tries to pick up when “Launch Motion” on Send menu is selected in FCP 7.

But if you do “send to Motion project” command without selecting “Launch Motion”, you can open this sent project manually with Motion 4 – it works as usual. And later on “Open in Editor” command work with Motion 4.

Maybe somebody will figure out what to tweak to make it work as before Motion 5.

  • Had the same problem.

On one new Mac Pro system changing the HD Extreme slot helped to solve sound playback problem.
Uninstall BM drivers, change card slot (in my case i put the card into most upper one, No4 if I’m right) reinstall BM drivers.

    In my case helped.
