I have been using a tricaster for 3 cam shoots using cannon Xl2s’
It has been very successfull as a switcher for this and is esy to use for recording your show to its drive. I have used it for live screen projection while recording as well. Their is some lag time from live to screen that I could live without. Shooting interlace helps to cut down on this. I have gotten very clear on screen picture from the projectors. Use the brightness and contrast to set your on screen whites. Balance the cameras from their shooting locations without the spotlight on the white card. as far as using powere point, the image on the screen will not look best quality unless you take the image directly from it source. You have to go to the VGA interface and take your power point directly from its source. The tri caster manual explains this better than I am. Any ways, with my experience using the Tri caster has been a successful one. I have used on great number of live shows in extreme lighting situations that were not ideal for shooting and it has come through for me. Hope this was helpfull to you. Best of luck to you.

  • Cal,

April 4, 2007 at 10:32 pm in reply to: Any suggestions for shooting live show?

    Mark,

thanx for the tips, This past weekend I did 7 shows in a row. Everything went well. I ran switcher for three cameras and had them take shots that would be suitable for tv. I have shot shows in this venue before and discovered early on that you have to decide what you want to go on screen as you stated. Being this will be put to DVD for resale I decided I had to shoot for tv. I made presets for the white balance on three different scenes, a dark blue,
orange red and the regular wash used for the main acting scenes. this seemed to cover all the bases for this show. The camera guys have to really work their irises and presets but we got in a groove
and I called ahead on shots so they could get their settings before I cut to them and they kept me informed what they neede from their end as well. Thank God for clear com! Its alot of work for all of us but its coming off nicely. I white balanced to every light scene with the a spot light hitting the white board and the irises on the cameras wide open full zebras. This seemed to work well. Have you any better suggestions on this? any more input would be great. Ive got 8 more shows to go.

    Thanx Again

    Pete,

I went through all three cameras. The video guy before me had the settings all over the plac. not one camera was the same. so I pulled the internal batterys to reset everything and it fixed the problem. They are all synced and working perfectly. Thanks for the tip on the internal battery.

    Pete ,

I think my original assesment was incorrect. It is the hue (phase that is fluctuating.

    Thanks Pete,

All the colors are fluctuating. I will trouble shoott all the settings but I am certain it will happen on all. I will try removing the internal battry as you suggested and see what happens.

    Thanks again Pete

Sorry, I am somewhat of a newbie at this so i don’t know what you mean by by phase or channel. What it looks like is the white balance is constantly changing. By channel do you mean presets? Ant professional insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Peter

    Thanks Erik

I will go pick them up. I figured out what the problem with the logo was. The designer who sent it to me created it in photoshop and placed it in illustrator so it isn’t a true vector. He resent me an illustrator version and it works fine. All my ae projects settings were correct. The books sound great!

    Thanks again Erik

Yes I have all the switches for quality and rasterization selected in the comp as well as best quality, no fields, rendering best quality.
