You can use the render_and_email.jsx script to render all queued render items and then send you an email message when you’re done. Ko Maruyama has a tutorial that walks through the steps; it’s a little old, but it’s still good:

Note that Ko mentions that you can send the email as a text message to your mobile phone. In case you didn’t know it, most text message systems allow you to send text messages as email messages. In the US, the email address is usually the ten-digit phone number followed by a string specific to the service provider, like this:

There’s a whole section about this in After Effects Help:

“How render order and collapsed transformations affect 3D layers”

Here’s an excerpt:

“The positions of certain kinds of layers in the layer stacking order in the Timeline panel prevent groups of 3D layers from being processed together to determine intersections and shadows. A shadow cast by a 3D layer does not affect a 2D layer or any layer that is on the other side of the 2D layer in the layer stacking order. Similarly, a 3D layer does not intersect with a 2D layer or any layer that is on the other side of the 2D layer in the layer stacking order. No such restriction exists for lights.

Just like 2D layers, other types of layers also prevent 3D layers on either side from intersecting or casting shadows on one another:

* An adjustment layer
* A 3D layer with a layer style applied
* A 3D precomposition layer to which an effect, closed mask (with mask mode other than None), or track matte has been applied
* A 3D precomposition layer without collapsed transformations”

Are you using a PSD file with a 3D object layer?

Have you updated to After Effects CS4 (9.0.2)? The 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 updates have addressed some erros that look like this.

You could keyframe the Aperture property. Decreasing aperture size decreases depth-of-field blur.

Yes.

The easy way to do what (I think) you’re describing is to analyze forward, pause the tracking operation when the tracked item goes out of frame, reposition the tracking region, and restart the tracking.

But you can also copy and paste motion tracking keyframes to assemble a whole, good track from several component attempts.

The basic instructions are in the section of After Effects Help about correcting a motion track.

If not, you should.

The update fixed several errors that impeded performance.
