Thanks, David. I just tried both survey links, and they worked fine for me in Firefox 3.5 on both Windows and Mac OS. In case there’s a problem with specific browsers, could you tell me which browser and OS you’re using?

To be clear, what Adobe has announced is that the next major version of After Effects will be a 64-bit application.

I’d be careful about jumping to conclusions about what this means for plug-ins.

My first thought is a general one: Use a particle effect. Have the particles be the object that you want to collapse. Create a scatter/explosion of these particles. Then run it in reverse.

Most plug-ins are compatible from one version to the other, as are virtually all animation presets.

As you can probably imagine, I have several versions of After Effects installed on each of several computers, and I have not had problems with an installation of a new version messing with the installed plug-ins or animation presets for a previous version.

In most cases, you can copy plug-ins from the Plug-ins folder for one version to the Plug-ins folder of the new version; however, there are some third-party plug-ins that have their own quirky licensing and installation issues, and you may have to re-install to have those plug-ins show up in the new version.

I’m sure that folks on this forum can help you out if you run into specific problems.

“Within each raster (non-vector) layer, elements are applied in the following order: masks, effects, transformations, and layer styles. For continuously rasterized vector layers, transformations occur before masks and effects.”

If I understand you scenario correctly, then you can achieve what you want by precomposing the layer with the effect on it and then transform (scale) the precomposition layer. Precomposing and nesting is very often the solution to such things.

If you’re just looking for a little bit of “static”, then maybe the Add Grain effect will be a good place to start.
