February 21, 2012 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Is there planned support for embedded alphas channels?My terminology was out, by layers I guess I meant tracks (although not tracks visible in the conform/timeline so I can understand the confusion). I’m doing what you’re doing but thats still 3 streams of video for 2 layers and 5 for 3 layers, which must require more bandwidth and be more processing heavy than just processing a single alpha channel right? From my experience I need to create black and white RGB alpha mattes and add them as mattes, so that means its processing 3 channels when it only really needs to be one (an alpha! Lol).

So much for;

Fair enough. I just tested it, dynamics come through with the xml workflow but clips from the same master clip get re-linked, and so different grades of the same master clip don’t seem to come though, but the clip durations have changed so I’m not surprised here. These can be overcome with manually copying/pasting grades via still etc if need be.

I understand, but what about dynamic grading and differenct grades across differnt clips from the same master file / master clip?

I’ve noticed the ASUS P9X79 PRO is listed as a supported motherboard, is it fair to say other ASUS P9X79 motherboards (such as the ‘ASUS P9X79 WS’, the WorkStation variant of the ASUS P9X79 chipset) would also be natively supported?
I ask as the ASUS P9X79 WS has 6 PCI-E slots and could therefore be more appropriate for a Resolve build, with slots needed for I/O, Storage controllers and GPU’s.

If I do use the xml method, would different grades of the same master shot come across correctly (most clips of the same take/shot have been un-linked and graded separately)? What about dynamic grades and windows etc?
Also, for the new clips (that aren’t in the exisiting timeline) would I just add these manually to the media pool? Would these then appear in the master session?

You could use a redlogfilm to redgamma2 LUT to have the flexibility of a log pipeline with the same initial starting point as redgamma. Working in log is different though, the way lift, gamma and gain respond is different to grading linear data, and I’m not sure I like it because you normally have to compensate the other two while working on one, ie, if you change the gamma (mids) the whole image changes (because with log images all the data is in the mids), so you have to compensate with lift and gain.
