    Thanks a lot! I had almost feared that.
    I’m working on a project that will be used for an installation with a surround projection of 5 projectors (so 5 x 1024×768 pixels). I was working with the entire 5120-pixel project and wanted to crop the single videos (it will need to be split) afterwards. Now I guess I will simply render the 5 single videos out from AE directly.

    VLC does. And when I import the footage into AE again it also says 4096.

    I tried cutting some of the black frames, but the results weren’t as expected. There are too many black frames and the result was too choppy.

    Is there anything like a dynamics compressor for video which works like an audio compressor, but compresses the channels of the video instead.

    Good idea! The jittery movement wouldn’t be that much of a problem, however cutting all the frames out manually would be a hell of a work.
    Maybe I can code a little program who does something like:
