Ok I love the JVC line but I have to admit to you right now that if you are using Panasonic tapes or even JVC tapes you are making your heads get the funk on before their time. The only tapes that I have had hits on are JVC and Panasonic. Please just use Sony HDV/DV63 tapes in your camcorder. You will be happier. Also get yourself into a JVC 50U deck. It is pretty reliable and will save your heads on the camera. Cameras are really just for minimal playback. Once you have used the “cleaning tape” on the deck of your camera then run a regular tape on record fo a minute and rewind and fast forward it a couple of times. This will replace the thin film build up that the camcorder actually needs to operate well. Remember do that after using the cleaning tape. If that doesn’t work, call JVC and get an Engineer on the phone. Your heads azmuth may be off.

OOOOH sounds bad! Usually operator error. So check your render settings. Isn’t mt2 a lesser format? For instance I recorded something on the hard drive in AVI1 and is sucked! It was already compressed and fuzzy! The client was a PC guy and asked for AVI2…that worked fine and seperated the audio into 2 tracks….I was pleased he was pleased! But in general every one wants Quicktime files. Almost every one can use them. Can Vegas handle Quicktime?
The Engineers at Focus told me to always use Quicktime…NOTHING ELSE!
for the most part they are right, but on occasion I get a request from the UK and or a PC guy for AVI2 and it has worked fine.

More than likely it is a recorded issue? Think did you record in Drop Frame?
Also check the system you are on. People at apple have told me that FC 6 is working fine but sometimes systems can be the problem…HUH? I know I can never tell who is telling me the truth.
Also when you put the tape in what are your settings? check sut up in FCP make sure you are matching your playback.

Yes I take it on the plane! Just get the carry on bag by PortaBrace and make sure that when you put the camera on you are near it and go twards the back of the plane it tends to be less crowded. Mine fit great and no one will make you check it in in the soft case. They will let you have it as your “one Carry On”. No worries.

It is never really advisable to use a camera as a deck. That is what the 50U is for. You don’t want to wear out your playback heads on the JVC 250U. Limited use may be ok. I just found out thet TLC/Discovery DP Tom Curran uses two of the JVC GY200 and two of the JVC GY250U’s for their popular show “big World Little People”.
Also Academy Award winner Davis Guggenheim uses the JVC HD100 intercut with film and won his award for “An Inconvenient Truth” while using it.
Hit Show Series for 24- Director of Photography Rodney Charters, ASC, CSC uses HD100. EW Scripps Director of Engineering talks at length on the JVC site about using the JVC GY250U.
That combined with my own experience using it for commercials,industrials and broadcast TV along with rave reviews by clients about the work flow with the hard drive; all that convinces me that ANYONE WHO DOES NOT LOVE THIS TECHNOLOGY…usually doesn’t understand it. At first if you don’t take a little time with the drive to understand how to set it up for each situation, you will be more likely to make mistakes.
After some close examination you will see that any problems with this tech is about operator error.

If stuff like this isn’t case study I don’t know what else is. Listen if I can get my hands on a couple more of these I will!

The biggest sales point for me is can this camera go in the field if you need it to? Absolutely yes! In fact it is far superior to most in this price range for field by virtue of its light weight and its pro features like shoulder mounting as well as flexibility. You can use an SD card to get your settings in memory and quickly chip other cameras with this as well as TC jam. The camera has shined in the amount of time you can get with a small Anton Bauer kit.Around 4 hours! I have done it and I never get tired on the shoulder. So it is flexible. You can use the studio config and you win or you can break it away and use it in the field for ENG. So far I haven’t found anyone who is willing to pay for my back, and Sony doesn’t seem to care about ergonomics or weight together. No one cares but the shooter…I think JVC showed with these cameras that they care. With variable frame rates and great on board Pro features, if you were traveling around the world doing a Documentary or shooting for BBC or NTSC you would never need to change cameras. JVC is the winner with a smokin picture!

For just around $2000. you can aquire a sachtler tripod with fliud head. It is amazing and it is called the DV6.
It can take the added wieght and is great for real fluid moves. You will be wondering what you did with out it all this time. Save some cash and just do it!
