The .ppj file format is Premiere’s project file format. It’s not a movie file, it’s really a text file that references all of your source movie files and how you edited them together.
You need to export your edited movie as a movie file, like AVI, QuickTime, or MPEG.
If you upgrade to Premiere Pro (or even Premiere Elements), you can burn a DVD directly from Premiere without having to export.

Warp for any layer was added in Photoshop CS2 (version 9.0). It’s not in earlier versions.
If you have CS2, select your layer then choose Edit > Transform > Warp.

The basic Athlon chips aren’t supported by the new Adobe video products (Encore 2, Premiere Pro 2, etc.) because the apps require SSE2.
You’ll need to upgrade your processor to an Athlon64 or Opteron. Which may also mean upgrading your motherboard as well.

Aha, you found the culprit. You shouldn’t have copy protection on for a burned DVD anyway, it doesn’t really work, it just throws some bits into the sector headers that usually aren’t recognized.
Autoplay for DVD-Video discs is entirely up to the OS. If it recognizes that there’s video content on the disc, it can load the DVD player software. You can put an autorun.ini file on the disc (since it needs to go on the root you’d have to build to a folder from Encore and burn from another app), but that’s only going to allow you to do command line type stuff.
On Windows I’m not really sure where the setting is. Possibly in the properties for the DVD drive (right-click on the icon in My Computer).

It doesn’t matter what plug-ins you have installed. AE handles all of the work. Dynamic Link works much like frameserving- AE is running in the background, and Premiere Pro or Encore ask for a frame, AE simply processes it and gives it to them.

A common trick is to shoot fire or explosions against a black background. Once you lay the footage in your comp, set the transfer mode of the layer to Multiply. (Or is it Screen? I forget.)
Shooting at night will work as long it’s dark enough out and the background is completely black. (You can always apply the levels effect to the footage and make the blacks “blacker”, but that may have undesirable effects on the fire.) You can also use a black backdrop, but make sure it is far enough away from the fire that A) it isn’t picking up any light from the fire, and B) it doesn’t catch on fire.
As always, you can shoot against a blue or green background as well and key it out. But the black trick works well for bright elements like fire and explosions.

No. You can’t save an AE project as an earlier version.
Going from PC to Mac is generally relatively seamless, but you may have to tell it where your footage is since the file paths are different on the OS’s. Also, if you’re using any fonts or third-party plug-ins, you need to make sure that they’re installed on both machines.

It’s probably time to reset the preferences for Encore. Go to Documents and Settings\
\Application Data\Adobe and trash the Encore folder. That should at least take care of the toolbox problem. As for the Photoshop issue, I’m not as sure. Might need to reinstall Encore for that one.

Is there any chance you could try a different burner? My gut instinct is that this is a media incompatibility issue. Since Ritek is usually good stuff, it could be something in what your burner is doing with the disc.
You could also try building an image or folder from Encore and then burning that with another app like Nero.
What do other devices (Windows PC’s, set-top players) think of the discs?
