It took me some time but I finally worked out the best method for stereoscopic 3D in FCP X. FxFactory 2.6.1 was just released with a new version of Stereo3D Toolbox LE that works with FCP X.

You can now download v3.0 of Stereo3D Toolbox LE here: https://www.dashwood3d.com/downloadle.php

    Here’s the tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIvljJdea2I

The website isn’t updated yet but we had to release this version this week because of the new Lion compatibility in FxFactory. We will update the site in the next couple of days to reflect the new features. As always, this update is free for existing license holders.

    Here’s what’s new:
    – Plugin components now 64-bit Snow Leopard & Lion (10.5 Leopard is no longer officially supported)
    – Compatible with FCE 4, FCP 6 & 7, Motion 4 or 5, AE CS3, 4, 5, 5.5 & FCP X 10.0
    – Compatible with Hasbro’s my3D format https://www.hasbro.com/hasbromy3d/en_US/
    – Instantly work with GoPro’s 3D files in FCP X without any transcoding or muxing. Same goes for Panasonic’s AG-3DA1. See the tutorial for step-by-step method.
    – Includes quick nest tools for building side by side compound clips or nests (works very well in FCP X.) Also detailed in tutorial.
    – Now includes the Global Output Mode feature from Stereo3D Toolbox
    – Now includes Anaglyph B&W and Anaglyph Outline mode
    – 2D bypass output option

We are working on a brand new website that will launch at the same time as Stereo3D Toolbox v3.0 and Stereo3D CAT v1.0, hopefully within two weeks. Visit https://www.dashwood3d.com in August for more updates.

Andrew. Do you have 3D Nvidia driver that works with Mac OS X? I would love to explore this but my understanding was that only Windows could drive the 3D monitors (which is one of the reasons I started exploring options for FCP.)

The MacPro ships with the GT 120. Are there any 3D options for this card?

    Thanks, Tim

Alex. I just realized that you linked to the HL72A650, which has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. That’s great. You should be able to just set the plugin to Checkerboard 1920×1080 mode and you should also be able to use a Blackmagic Intensity of similar card.

Please let me know how it all works out by posting your findings in this thread.

I added preset output modes for the Samsung PN42A450 and PN50A450 Series4 models of Plasma 3D-ready TVs. I don’t personally one of these monitors but I know that millions were sold and many people don’t even realize they have a 3D capability.

You will need to use HDMI input #2 (I think) and connect to your mac on the second DVI port so that you can set the Samsung monitor to its native resolution. (1350 x 768 or 1024 x 768)
Then set your FCP output for Desktop Preview – RAW. The plugin needs to scale horizontally for the non-square pixels of the monitor but it should work OK.

I would really like to get as much feedback as possible from users of the Samsung Plasma monitors. I would buy one if I could find one but I haven’t seen them in stores since last fall.

    Thanks, Tim
