    Hi,

I can give you some info on what they do on the show:-

Firballs are mainly stock footage and they have mixed other elements, such as 3D to get the look they want.

Explosions/Smoke etc are just mainly stock footage, again sometimes they use 3D created elements

Orbing the particles are created within 3DS MAX & then a glow is added within After Effects

The reason that the shows FX probably look real, is because they are using real life stuff as much as they can, this will probably be the same for any TV/FILM

The programs they mailny use are – 3DS MAX, After Effects & Inferno.

I got a magazine and it had an article on Charmed and they went into all kinds of detail of the programs they use & how they create the FX, that is how I know this.

I just wanted to share that with you.

    Hi Alan,

Thanks for the reply, I wasn’t going to just use other peoples emitters and render them out as my own.

I was going to modify emitters and combind various emitters together and render that out as a clip of something then sell, is that ok?

I mean there is all my fire library just sitting in a library not really doing much, but now I can sell a whole lot more areas open up now 🙂

    Thanks again

Hi, I think probably the best way to do this with PI is to use masks, so that the teleporting (“orbing”) takes the shape of the character. I hope this helps, as i too am curious on how to do this effect as i really love charmed and it would be great to great that specific effect 🙂

Hi, i have just read all the posts, and i thought i would try and help, atleast with the energyball emitters. If you need energyball emitters, i have created my own energy emitter library with various energy effects, mainly energyballs, as i wanted to try and create my own variations of Charmed energyball, as i really love Charmed 🙂

Here is the link to my energy library

I hope this helps you 🙂
