April 7, 2007 at 5:11 pm in reply to: BLEEDING EDGE – Sequence settings for new JVC GZ-HD7U???Well, I have had other prosumer cameras, such as the TVR-900 and FX-1, and you would see which codec was associated with the clip.
The camera is certainly a prosumer camera, based on specs – I’m fully willing to acknolwedge that there may be incompatibilities, and if so, I’ll return it
I’m not a pro, but a long time enthusiast.

April 7, 2007 at 2:03 pm in reply to: BLEEDING EDGE – Sequence settings for new JVC GZ-HD7U???Sorry – I’m getting confused with all the variants out there. My rudimentary understanding was that the MPEG2 format employed by JVC (1920×1080) was different than the HDV standard at 1440, and that’s why they supplied a special codec.
Still, none of the HDV settings work…
I’ll be posting a small clip and the codec soon, and let everyone know where to download…

April 7, 2007 at 1:59 pm in reply to: BLEEDING EDGE – Sequence settings for new JVC GZ-HD7U???I will try and do that today – I would think one would nee the Quicktime Component installer from JVC too, which I’ll try and post…

April 7, 2007 at 12:11 pm in reply to: BLEEDING EDGE – Sequence settings for new JVC GZ-HD7U???But remember, it’s not recorded with HDV compression – my test was “full” HD 1920 x 1080 using the CBR MPEG2 recording mode – allegedly, the Quicktime Component provided by JVC that I installed should allow me to work with this format natively (if in limited fashion, though this limitation is not defined)
But I don’t see a Compressor choice in the Sequence settings that correlates to the component I just installed.

April 7, 2007 at 12:02 pm in reply to: BLEEDING EDGE – Sequence settings for new JVC GZ-HD7U???Thanks – if I can’t get this to work after speaking with JVC, the camera will go back – included software is not doing what it’s supposed to do.
I think what is key is that I would expect to see a new codec added to the list in FCP (and iMove) for that matter, for the applications to be able to correctly recognize it. Further, what’s odd is under a clips Item Properties in FCP, the CODEC entry is blank – FCP is not interpreting what it is….

April 7, 2007 at 11:58 am in reply to: BLEEDING EDGE – Sequence settings for new JVC GZ-HD7U???That’s where my problem lies, I think – I don’t see a code to match in the sequence settings menu (nothing that refers to MPEG2 or the TOD extension on the transferred files…
MPEG Streamclip won’t open the file – gives me an error that it’s not valid….
