Well, there is some movement as the person talks. Leaning back and forth, etc. I was hoping there was some simple setting I could apply! Any idea why the effect is happening? Is there too much green in the blue color of the shirt maybe?

Basically, the problem is I’m an idiot. Okay, maybe not stupid but ignorant.

I shot the footage with a GL-2 in standard def. Since I’d later like to submit this to a local film festival in 16:9 I was trying to set it up as such, and the only way I got that to work in iMovie was going with 1280 x 720 in AE. In order to make that work I had to use my footage at 175%.

When I started over at 680 x 480 and the footage at 100%, I exported with no compression. Viola, everything looks good! Very little flicker, in fact I’m fine with it. It’s not feature film level compositing but for what I’m doing it will work!

    Thanks again to all,

    Thomas

Thank you, David. I suspected as much. I guess I’ll be buying Final Cut Express. Other than not being able to do film, is there anything important I’ll be giving up by not going with FCP?

Is it possible to find a way for someone to take a quick look at my file? I may be able to post it to a website I have, but I’m not very experienced in that area. I haven’t updated it in a while and I forgot how to make changes! I guess submitting e-mail addresses is too public? I could give mine if it’s okay and send the file to those who ask.

Anyway, just looking for more help!

    Thanks!

I am using what I have available to me right now- After Effects 6.5, iMovie and iDVD. Before I read your latest post I rendered out a file using 1280 x 720 and it seemed to import fine into both iMovie and iDVD, filling up the screen nicely. The earlier 720 x 480 file left black bars on each side when imported. Maybe these programs support 1280 x 720?

Yes, I’ll be playing the video via DVD. If I select a screen aspect ration of HDTV 1280 x 720, I’ll get my 16:9, correct? Now, the preset for that is square pixels, so my Photoshop imports are good. But what about video, Mini DV and stock footage converted from Beta SP? Should I render those separately with a different pixel aspect ratio, or should I use the Interpret Footage dialog box? Not sure about these issues!

    Thanks again.

I am doing green screen right work now with footage shot on a Canon GL-2. Believe me, I’ve learned a lot about the subject in the last few weeks! I will check out that tutorial though, thanks. I think I’ll come out okay for what I’m doing. It will be shown only on a single monitor in a museum, and I’m working on a miniscule budget so the client will be more than happy with the result, I think.

However, my next shoot will be an interview in a person’s backyard. I want to be able to use that, combined with stills and stock footage, for a short piece and I need to come out with a good enough image quality to be shown on TV. Thus the nature of my inquiry.
