February 20, 2012 at 8:59 pm in reply to: MM Scheduling/ Celtx/ Gorilla/ Production BoothHi Brett,
I’ve been going down the same path — looking for software that will adhere to my multi-project needs. I didn’t know about ProductionBooth.com – thank you for that — I’ll have to check it out.
I did come across a beta software called Setkick (https://www.setkick.com) that is pretty good and they are very responsive. They, also, are in a testing stage but it might be worth investigating.
Another possible is Scenechronize (https://www.scenechronize.com/). And yet one more is Shotgun (https://www.shotgunsoftware.com/).
These are all online options, but very worth a look. They all have different ways of accomplishing the same task, at different price options.
I’ve tried Celtx (too limited) and Gorilla (too non integrated – but so are most Filemaker options!).
I’ll keep an eye on this thread in case you find any others …. or if anyone else would like to chime in?
Thank you and great luck to you 🙂

I am interested as well. We tend to write everything tailored to the specific job without a template per se, and it would be very helpful to find a site or links to examples, as Franklin requested.

August 3, 2009 at 5:11 pm in reply to: Archiving project files and associated materials offlineI, too, am looking for a good archiving solution for FCP. We have a very small shop but lots of footage, as you can imagine 🙂 We’ve been using the Firewire drive solution but it’s proving to be fairly inefficient at this point. I’ve read about Walter’s solution and am looking into that, although I’m a little concerned about archiving onto a drive again (sitting unused for a period of time etc…)
I’m wondering, Mark, how it went for you after all was said and done?
And does anyone else have an archival solution to share?
Thank you in advance!
~ Tess
PS: I love this forum!! A daily read :)))

June 17, 2009 at 5:07 pm in reply to: Reccomendations: Cinematography & Lighting DVDs/BooksI can second those recommendations as well … both are excellent books! And Blain Brown sometimes gives lectures in the LA area if he’s not working! A big plus :)) As John mentions, the forums here and at cinematography.com are incredible resources — working DP’s at high levels tend to answer and be involved. My experience in all of these forums has been nothing short of positive – no being looked down upon for asking newbie type questions – everyone is very helpful and willing to share.
Good luck to you Anderson!

June 15, 2009 at 8:30 pm in reply to: Reccomendations: Cinematography & Lighting DVDs/BooksHi Anderson,
There are several very good books out there …. if you head over to the ASC website (https://www.theasc.com/) you’ll find a store section, with lots of different types of books. I was partial to Motion Picture and Video Lighting as well as Cinematography, Theory and Practice. Look at all the offerings and see which suits you best. One type of book isn’t necessarily good for all, depending on your learning style 🙂
As always, practice, practice, practice is always the best teacher!

Thank you everyone — this has been very helpful! I appreciate the cowmunity here very much … I even got to meet Ron L at Cinegear this year! 🙂

😀 Yeah – money is good! We are not the ‘copy credit meals’ type — that belongs to the craigslist crowd. I guess I’m just trying to be proactive instead of reactionary to the gig at hand — having a stable of folks you know will do well vs having a time deadline to find someone that MAY be able to do the job .. I guess I’m a planner at heart 🙂 …. Thank you for the idea about the stock shooters – I hadn’t thought of that — I chase that down tomorrow.

Good point, Todd – maybe I should rephrase my question …..
What is the best way to find new talent? Via specific websites or agencies or networking events or … alla that? 🙂 I know I’ve got some trolling through reels to do so I’m prepared for that!
Thank you again ….
