Thanks for the response Oliver. I’m curious about the problems you’ve experienced with Libraries on the QNAP. Are you connecting via 10GbE or TB? We’ve been editing long-form projects with 1-2 editors on it via 10GbE for nearly a year and it’s been pretty stable, no issues that I could say are specifically caused by working off the NAS. Infrequently, FCPX quits, but I chalk that up to FCPX.

Any downsides to setting the Motion templates location to an external location? We use a QNAP NAS and I thought I recalled reading something (which I can’t find now) about not setting the Motion templates location to the Library if it’s external. A problem only on older versions perhaps?

[Eric Santiago] “Now if I can only export info out of that to excel :)”

I tried CommandPost after learning about it on another thread here and was able to export chapter markers to Excel. It might be able to export out what you need. https://commandpost.io

Mary – Just wanted to give you an opinion from an EditReady user (no affiliation) that it’s been $50 well spent. I’ve been using it for the last few years to prep Sony FS700 AVCHD footage for FCPX. The support requests has been answered promptly and they are even implementing a feature I suggested.

After reading about it on another thread, I started playing with the free CommandPost app from commandpost.io and it supports exporting the Timeline Index to a CSV. The exported CSV looks like:

    Name Position Notes
    Song Title 01:00:37:04 song info
    Marker2 01:05:22:19 abccd

Seems like this would work for you.

December 12, 2018 at 8:38 pm in reply to: 10GbE QNAP switch with Cat6?

    Hi Bob,

We’re in San Diego, CA. I’d prefer the TVS-872XT but would like to purchase before year-end for tax reasons, so I may go with the TVS-873 instead.

The TS-1685 and TS-1677X look great but are overkill for us.

Nope, no Unity. I’ve been running FibreJet for years and years with multiple Avid, FCP and PT bays, but time to downsize and upgrade.

Thank you Bob, I’m sure I will be contacting you for help.

You might be right about the wire, it’s been so long since we ran it and crimped ends (2004). We do have the tools. On the jacket it says “Category 6 ( a couple spaces) E1 08998 …”

Yes, we’ve been running on fiber for too long. Any scuttlebutt on when the TVS-872XT will be available? Before the end of the year?

I traded email with Alex at Indiestor who said for a single Avid seat, Mimiq was not required if not saving the project files back to the QNAP. Load “alldrives” into the Avid console and enjoy. He then heartily recommended you for all QNAP config. ☺

Thank you Bob! Our wire is Belden-M Mediatwist 1872A, not 2412, but this should still work okay, correct?

I’m looking to migrate from our fibre channel to a QNAP switch and something like the TVS-873e for 2 edit stations, FCPX and Media Composer, ProTools, media processing and general file storage.

    Thanks,
    -Terry

We would like to use the HuffYUV codec for our very busy PC-based, Media Express + Duo capture station. Having to capture uncompressed is unnecessarily chewing through disk space.

We use the HuffYUV codec in many of our processes because it’s lossless, is incredibly space efficient and not too processor intensive.

How can we capture using the HuffYUV codec in Media Express?

    Thanks,
    -Terry
