Faking motion footage requires two things: a backplate image and a foreground matte. Take a look at Video Copilot’s DVD menu tutorial…he shows how to use layers of images in After Effects to fake a camera crane and dolly. It’s not point-n-click easy but a VERY handy trick to know! The method can be done in Premiere or any other NLE that you can keyframe motion in.

Wow! What a wealth of info. Thank you.

I had the chance to audition both the Presonus and the Focusrite at GuitarCenter, and I’ll be going with the Scarlett Solo.

    Thanks again,

  • I’ve been a Mac user since 1999, leaving behind the horrors of Win98se. But now, I’ve found MS has their act together, and switching all the way back to WinPC is a no-brainer for me.

After stripping down a Win7 machine with BlackViper’s services list, I haven’t had one single issue. It’s been very ‘Mac-like’, aside from the Finder / Explorer differences.
Speed is incredible (QuickSync on Devil’s Canyon, anyone? WOW!) — and stability is no longer an issue. We’ll be phasing out our Macs soon…

Plus, the Adobe doesn’t charge you to swap over…

    Just a thought.

  • I’ve submitted 96Mbps CBRs with no problem. They run everything through their sledgehammer compression system, so no matter how masterfully you prep a file, it’ll be a macroblocked quilt by the time it hits their SD channels.

  • Thanks Mark. The course will consist of 8 one hour videos, with on-location exteriors, studio time with onscreen talent, VO, motion graphics, the whole bit. I will have to write the script (awesome book! thanks)

I was toying with a finished minute setup… but $1000 pfm at 480 minutes is nuts. Since each hour is a different facet of the training, I don’t see much room for recycling footage or templating sequences. All videos will have same look and feel, so…

I think I can figure things out from here. Thanks again. I’ll let ya’ll know how this turns out, and post samples once we’re done. 🙂

  • I recall somewhere the camera crew on a show (Weeds? Breaking Bad?) had a ‘real-time’ color grade going on-set as they shot. Saved them tons of time in post. I’d like to know how they did that, and how to implement into my shooting workflow 🙂
