Thanks Steve. I’m more interested in either the new MacPro or the iMac27 5k Retina.
However, I keep reading in forums that pro users are experiencing crashes and performance issues, mainly due to the AMD GPU. However, most of what I read is from several months ago (including this thread), and I’m interested in hearing fresh experiences from a pro user (AE, Pr cc2014, 4k, Effects etc..) Thanks.

Hi, a few months have passed since this long thread about the iMac27 5k Retina.
I am wondering if anyone has any new feedback to share from experiencing this computer ?

Do you know if anything improved with Adobe’s recent version updates?
Does anyone know what Adobe plans to do with the version they announced at NAB? (the upcoming version) Will it fully support AMD ?
(Do Adobe work better with AMD cards today? and what will happen in the upcoming version?)

I am interested in buying the Maxed iMac27 5k Retina, but would like to know if it’s a good investment.
I will be using Premiere Pro cc 2014 to edit 4k footage on a 1080 timeline.
I will also use After Effects with 2-4k and plugins such as Particular, Element3D, Plexus, Magic Bullet Looks.

I actually was just about to buy the non-retina iMac27, since it had the option to upgrade to
3.5GHz Quad-core i7 + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
However, it looks like Apple has stopped offering this option (the i7 now ships ONLY with the 5k retina!!)

So, to sum up, what are your thoughts and experience with this configuration:

iMac Retina 5k with:
4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 4x8GB
1TB Flash Storage
AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5

Also, do you think it’s better to go for the MacPro ?
3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache
32GB (4x8GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
1TB PCIe-based flash storage
Dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM each

Hi Michael,

Wondering if there are already any updates from NAB which will help me decide which computer to buy.
Do you know if there are any changes with regards to Mac ?

My understanding is that Macs are working with Adobe just as good as PC’s.
The main difference is there is no CUDA acceleration with Mac. Is that so ?

The project is 99% completed. I already presented it in class.

This is what I was initially told by “Acum” the music rights administration in my country.

I’m interested in uploading the video to Youtube / Vimeo.
It’s a beautiful clip… I guess it could potentially fit into Vimeo Staff Picks.
But since I don’t have the rights I will not try to send it to them.

All I want is to post it on my Facebook page for my friend’s to watch.
I assume it might get a few hundred views, not more… that’s it. That’s the whole story.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.
I completely understand and agree with all of your explanations.

If only the music rights administration in my country told me from start that it’s going to be a problem.
(they kind of misled me and told me that it won’t be a problem since I’m a student, they even told me the price)

I will have to change the music. Or find a composer who can create something as strong.
I learnt a lot (the hard way) from all this..

Tom, the track is “Odd Look” by Kavinsky.

I wish I could get in touch with him.. show him the video… he might be convinced 🙂
