I completely understand what you are saying in regards the Canon EF mount. It’s a drawback for Canon EF owners and I go out of my way to explain the shortcomings of this particular adaptor.

However, we have sold an amazing amount of them since we started manufacturing them several months ago. I took 50 to Broadcast Video Expo at Earls Court with me this week and returned from the show last night with only a handful. It was explained to ever customer that they would have to use their Canon stills to change the aperture and all said it was something they were prepared to put up with.

The adaptor does work, but you are right, under a partly cloudy day with the sun coming out every five minutes, changing the aperture would become frustrating.

And probably the reason why our Nikon adaptors outsell our Canon adaptors 4 to 1.

The chances of an electronic version coming out? Unfortunately not from us as the expense involved in developement, and in the end to the customer, would reduce sales to a trickle.

Thanks for mentioning our product Bruno.

We have been manufacturing the Canon EF to PMW-EX3 adaptor for about 6 months and in that space of time have sold many hundreds of them. They have proved to be very popular with EX3 owners who own Canon glass and don’t want to head for Ebay to pick up some cheap Nikon lenses.

There is one extra step that is needed when using Canon EF lenses. Because the EF lenses don’t have an external aperture ring, the only way possible to change the aperture of the lens is to pop it onto a Canon EOS, change the aperture, then pop it back onto the EX3.

Whilst this sounds a pain, it actually only takes a few seconds. I have spoken to many of the customers who have purchased our Canon EF to EX3 and they say, depending on lighting conditions, to set the lens aperture, and they are then set for the shoot (as long as lighting conditions don’t change!)

We manufacture the adaptors ourself and guarentee then for 12 months no quibble. They are currently in stock ready for same day dispatch worldwide.

    Best regards

Hi John, it is easier said than done. The connectors would be difficult to source so would probably have to be custom made, on top of any top quality glass.

We have had a few requests for the ACM-21 adaptor and would have similar problems to overcome there as well. Not that we are saying no.

There’s not enough hours in the day!

We did a test to compare a standard 35mm Nikon Lens with a DX Nikon 18-70mm set at 35mm. The results showed that the magnification was actually almost identical.

Take a look at this clip shot to see the difference. As the DX lens is consumer it is difficult to know if the lens lengths printed on the lens are accurate.

It’s on the horizon Michael but we have other things on the map before we get there. The original Adaptimax and the Plus have been in such high demand its taken up almost 100% use of our CNC.

Next up is the Canon EF version to EX3 and Nikon to Z7U, and then we are are hopefully working on an EX3 baseplate with an addon over the shoulder counter-weight (mid-late summer by the time we get there)

Our aim is to make very high quality camera adaptors and accessories at prices that people can afford to buy without thinking about it for a week or three.

    Hope that helps.

Hi Enrique, if you put a 17mm Nikon on the Adaptimax, it would be a 92mm lens so there is no benefit at all. For wide lenses use the stock EX3 lens and a wide angle convertor, or a 35mm adaptor like the Brevis of Letus with wide angle lenses.

For any length over the stock lens the Adaptimax is superb. Where a 35mm adaptor like the Letus gives like for like, (so if you put on a 50mm lens that’s what you get), the Nikon lens on an Adaptimax only uses the middle part of the projected image, that is “magnified” by X5.4 to give telephoto. So if you are shooting an object at distance, or wildlife, you can get that closeup shot impossible with the stock Sony lens or a 35mm adaptor like the Letus.

And if you are shooting macro, a 105mm 2.8mm Nikon macro (micro)gives really excellent closeups. So basically Adaptimax for Macro and Telephoto, stock EX3 lens or 35mm adaptor for everything in between.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the promot reply. Its not too low that I can’t send it out, but the customer will have to turn the tv up when playing the dvd.

I guess I will have to stick to -31.

    Thanks

Thanks John and Jeff for your comments.

I will try both methods. I only want to make blu-ray not SD dvd, so its driving me crazy. I will first try the method of seperate audio and video, and then the other method.

Really Adobe should be on this case and have sorted it. It was basically an unavoidable problem and one nearly every person would hit when it comes to making a blu-ray dvd. Things should be as simple as possible. And at the moment they are not.

    Thanks again

  • Also like to mention if I burn a blu ray dvd from the Vegas timeline, the picture qualty is perfect.
