Whoa!
That depends on the scanning method … scan at the DPI that gives you the width that Trevor mentioned, or bigger. It may be 72, maybe not.Once it’s scanned and digital, the DPI is irrelevant.

Excellent.
You might want to switch off auto-orient (layer>transform>auto-orient) for the camera unless it’s important for the camera to follow a specific point. If you end up animating the Point of Interest because you have to, not because you want to, you might want to switch it off.
It might take time before you develop your own working method with the 3D camera.
And try draft 3D or disable DOF if things get really slow.

It looks as if you have a bunch of imported stills there … throw ’em into the comp, make ’em 3D, add a 3D camera (as for the camera setting, use your eyes — is it wide or narrow?) Make sure the images are high-rese enough to handle being shown in closeup. Then you make the camera pull back, place your images where they look good for the pullback, set the DOF shallow or deep according to your taste, apply bevel alpha and a CC light sweep (maybe) effect and that’s about it to my eye.
Then you tweak it.

Adding to what the others have written: the 132ppi is probably an indicator of the number of pixels per inch in the display. This tells me that the 1024×768 screen is 7.75 inches by 5.8 inches. I think that’s about right for a 9.7″ diagonal screen.
… and that’s all. As Dave wrote, ppi and dpi are irrelevant in video content creation. They are only relevant for scanning and display: translation out of (scanning) and into (display) the real world.
To reiterate: all you need to know is ‘1024×768’ (or 576). DPI and PPI are irrelevant to us. Whether it’s an iPhone, iPad or the NASDAQ Marketsite, size in pixels is all you need to know size-wise.
(Of course, pixel aspect ratio is relevant, too. Use square for computer-like displays.)

It was too easy.

July 13, 2010 at 1:13 am in reply to: can AE turn .avi’s into playable DVD’s? (for dvd players)Buy a DVD Authoring app (or maybe just a DVD burning app) and check out the DVD Authoring COW Forum for more info.
The app that came with your PC might do it — check its Help.
But no, AE won’t do it.

Lens flare is designed to operate on the whole frame in a 2D layer.
– to change size, try adjusting the intensity of the flare
– if you see edges, try applying the grow bounds effect before (above) the flare in the effects stack -
You arranged your composition for a horizontal frame and the client expects it to look good in a vertical frame too? Without rearranging as lot of elements?
Try this: add an adjustment layer over everything and apply effect>distort>transform and rotate 90 degrees within that effect. If that doesn’t work, drag the whole comp into another comp and rotate it 90 degrees inside that comp. You might have to hit the continuous rasterization switch.
But methinks you’ll have to re-arrange a large part of your comp.
