You mean “layer”, not “track”, right?

For now, why not scrub the Time Stretch value in the timeline until the end of the layer ends up where you want it?

Have you tried Rendering (using the Render Queue) to the Photo-JPEG codec and playing the result in Quicktime Player?

Thirded on the help. It’s one of the better help systems I’ve used.

Other help systems tell you what you can do without telling you how to do it, give you long-winded explanations of theory, or bury their instructions in unsearchable databases. AE’s help is good for guys like me who learn on the fly.

Of course, it helps to know some of the terms, and that’s where forums can help.

[Jeffrey Kaplan] “Try to pick “natural” keyframe points from the source material and fill add detail as needed. “

This is sooooooo important. Watch the footage over and over to find those natural points. Any time “saved” by avoiding this step will be spent later on as you need to add more and more unnecessary keyframes.

FYI: CS5 works on Leopard, 10.5.7+.
I’m on 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro and the trial runs fine so far.
