Each app has its camps. C4D for motion graphics, Lightwave for all-round indie (and Star Trek), Max for corporate and games, Maya for character, Houdini for effects, and Soft for, er, lotsa high-end stuff. Just modelling? Rhino maybe. Of course, I could be wrong on the aforementioned list, but there is no one industry standard.

    Anyway, try CGTalk maybe — we’re AE-centered here. 🙂

Hm. Maybe make a movie of the smoke with the time>echo effect applied, and use that as the matte? Maybe fake it by adding the transition>linear wipe to the footage to wipe it upwards?

Don’t assume that any video will play back on your computer. Hard drives aren’t yet fast enough to play highest-quality videos. They just can’t read the disk fast enough to sustain full frame rate playback.

Highest-quality videos are meant to be transferred to another app for further processing — they’re not meant to be played back. Unless you have a RAID.

So don’t try to play back the video unless it has gone through all processing to its playable end (Sorenson, WMV, DVD) or you’ve made a test video for hard-drive playback (say, Photo-JPEG at 89% or so).

Unless the problem’s something else …?

2-pass VBR is better quality, and file size. On the first pass, the encoder reads the clip to see where you have rustling trees (high bitrate) and talking head on bluescreen (low bitrate). On the second pass, it encodes appropriately, ensuring quality on the messy stuff and low bitrate (file size) on the smooth stuff.

Hey, don’t take my word for it. Do some tests. 🙂

Ouch. Maybe — couldn’t hurt. Sorry, I’ve never used this script before today.

    Anybody else?

If you have DVDsp, you have Compressor.

Render (composition>Make Movie) a Quicktime Animation movie in AE, then drag that into Compressor and make the MPEG-2 there, using a 2-pass VBR preset, probably the 90-minute one.

I think we’re talking about Java, not QTVR.

To download and use, you’ll have to contact whoever made them, or contact the people who make the Pure Player to see if the panoramas can be downloaded. I’d ask the client where the panoarmas came from, and contact whoever made them.

    Anybody else?
