    Hi Greg,

Thanks for reaching out! I’ll send you an email – but for all of our bovine friends who might need a studio facility in Orlando (sorry for the shameless plug!),

    Check out https://greenslatestudios.com/spec.html

This is our facility (it’s just branded separately from Omni) and is perfect for small to mid sized productions. About 10 minutes from the airport and is available for only $450/day.

Heck, there’s even a massage chair in the Green Room!

OK – end of shameless plug…

I agree Nick! I don’t travel a lot, but when I do, I’ll usually post here on the COW and have gotten great results. You just have to do you due diligence and ask lots of questions!

Of course, if you’re ever in Central Florida – feel free to call on us 🙂

  • I agree with you Walter. I am not married to any company – other than my own. I’m not in business to serve Apply, HP, Adobe or anyone else. I need to make decisions about the tools that will help me serve MY CLIENTS. They are the only ones that actually matter.

Do I “like” macs? Yes. Do I “need” them? Maybe not.

20 years ago, I edited on a Video Toaster with an AmiLink (pseudo CMX style editor) based A/B Roll system. The move to a Media100 system in mid 90’s was a difficult shift in workflow, but worth it. The same was true for the transition to FCP 10 years ago.

So being versatile on multiple platforms is probably smart. And with Adobe’s Creative Cloud subscription, I can install on either platform. The more I play with Premiere, the more I like it for how I serve clients. Tempting… very tempting indeed.

Unless we have specifics (exact travel dates, location(s), etc..) we simply say that travel costs are TBA pending logistics. If we have the logistics, then we give them a rough breakdown for airfare, lodging, per diem, etc…)

LIke you, we seldom travel with lighting gear. It’s almost always better for us to hire a good local gaffer & grip with gear.

    Have a great shoot!

Thanks for the kind words Mick!

We were really pleased with the results as well and the fact that it helped raise over $300K for the Make-A-Wish of Central Florida was really the icing on the cake.

Best of luck to you in following your passion!

May 22, 2012 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Screen Share with Clients?

A few years ago, there was a company that introduced a product/service whereby the editor could upload a compressed file that clients would download. Then the client and editor (each with a local file on their machine) would log into a session where by either could remote control playback on the local machines while they talked about via phone or skype. The idea was to avoid the need for insanely fat internet pipes since only control data was on the internet.

I think there was even a feature that allowed all users to make notes that flowed into FCP as markers.

I tried it briefly, but it didn’t work for me because too many of our clients were large corporations (with very strict security firewalls) that simply didn’t allow remote control into their network.

I just can’t remember the name of the company or the product. Maybe something like “SyncView?” Does this ring a bell for anyone here? Did they fail?

  • With tax revenues down because of the economy, our friends at the IRS are stepping up enforcement and likely “interpreting” rules in their own favor. And unlike criminal court, there is no presumption of innocence.

In other news, they can (and are) also routinely delaying refund checks by up to 180 days. Ask me how I know!

In my case it was officially labeled “detailed review” but they didn’t ask for any additional documentation or information. Granted, they’ll pay you (very low) interest, but I suspect what they really wanted was access to my money during last summer’s debt ceiling crisis.

Interesting… just happened to me as well. But here’s the weird thing. I opened up in a different browser, and I could see my post. Oh wait, I see… I’m not loggin in with the other browser. Never mind…
