You simply can not use fast and cheap in the same sentence.
I use the PCD-35. Offload a full 64GB P2 card in 19 minutes.

PCD35-Fastest Express 34. Retail $2200. I’ve seen used ones for around $1300-&1400

Export a QuickTime Movie. Drop that file into Compressor and choose and customize your settings for h.264.

Standard ProRes or ProRes LT will work perfect with your system and FW800 drive. ProRes HQ is causing the problem. Very large file sizes and drives can’t keep up with your data rate.

You will see the zebras when connected to the VIDEO out only. Just like the menu says. You do not see zebras when connected to SDI.

I had a problem with Motion templates in Snow Leopard. Occurred after an OX update.; I don’t have the problem in Lion. Glad you worked it out.

Move your plug-ins to another location and try opening FCP from the app.

Must mean that you need to start using Premiere. Are you trying to open a previous FCP project or opening the FCP app?

Flush your toilet three times. Make sure to install any drivers nescessary for Lion.

Boris FX will give you the best bang for the buck. Others to look at are FXFactory Pro and CoreMelt.

The Mini would be good if it had SDI. Only has analog component, S-Video and HDMI i/o.
