Thanks for input. Definitely using 48kHz audio and can’t provoke fault with 44.1 set in VO tool. Never had a problem with 4gb ram, I rarely do anything that needs rendering. Might wind back to 10.8 as a precaution though.

  • Hi. I’m editing DVCAM in FCP7 and normally all is good regarding field order except that recently I’ve been given clips that were unaccountably upper field and produced the usual artifacts that I was unable to view on my Macbook of course. I was under the impression that FCP will conform all clips on the timeline to the sequence settings. So my question is this …

Should I be OK as long as I either convert all clips to DV (lower field) before importing OR change the field order in item properties in the browser or timeline? Can’t quite get my head around the effect on motion of displaying a clip in th opposite field order to that in which it was recorded. Someone told me that Avd exports DV upper field first which if true would explain recent issue.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi. Many thanks for reply. I know about the Sony tools as I use XDCAM all the time. Seems as though problem was a dodgy or ‘orphaned’ file. Going to get a resend with folder structure from card.

    Cheers

Can you help me? I have FCP 7.0.3 and mxf files are greyed out in Log and Transfer so can’t be selected. I was hoping to do this without plugin, suggestions most welcome.

    Thanks.

  • To partially answer my own question in case it helps others…

Still can’t export a 422 50Mb xdcam file that’s visible to a SxS deck or camera, but for anything to work I’ve realised that the SxS card you’re exporting to must be formatted UDF and not FAT even if working in standard def.

For standard def. work a DVCAM clip (on a UDF formatted card) can be exported and played in a camera or deck. XDCAM browser will pick up sequence settings for export from FCP7.

For HD work I’ve only been able to export a XDCAM EX 1080/50i VBR file. This is 420 at 35Mb but that’s going to look fine. It means changing export settings in xdcam brower. Check you choose ‘XDCAM EX…’ as there’s another similar looking setting that gives you 1440 and not 1920. Next thing is to work out why Sony don’t allow a 50Mb 422 xdcam export. (firmware?)

Now that’s a great idea, can’t wait to try it. Many thanks.

Many thanks for all the help, much appreciated. Got to the stage where I couldn’t work it out for myself and couldn’t find info in the manual.

    Cheers.

Yep, I am doing the weird thing. Sounds like I need to learn all about keyframes and graph editors. Actually thought my k/f were linear as default but will investigate further. Thus US not as simple as I thought. Many Thanjs for pointing me in the right direction.

Yep, I’m doing the weird thing. I need to learn about the keyframe graph editor I assumed that keyframes were linear to start with. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I’ll have another crack ASAP.

Yes, that’s what I doing. I’m wondering if pre comping then time remapping is part of the answer so that having sorted the scaling aIR then apply the positioning to the pre comp. Would that work?
