April 18, 2012 at 2:41 pm in reply to: Failed consolidation in Avid MC6 from MXF files on the Ki Pro MiniSorry I thought I said it in my post, I am linking the files using AMA but once linked they will not consolidate. Here is what I said in the original post; “I have been having problems consolidating the linked AJA KPM files.”

February 20, 2012 at 7:53 pm in reply to: Sync 2 Sony Ex3 cameras recording on Aja Ki pro miniI’ve sync an F3 with an EX3, need to gen-lock the two cameras and run time-code in from the other cameras TC out. You need to run free run timecode on both cameras which means you need to start and stop the Minis manually. I’m not sure if the EX3 has ancillary data out via SDI, However if it does and you have the KPM 3.0 update you might be able to use ancillary camera data to start/stop the minis, I’ve been able to run free run on the camera and start/stop the camera (F3) using ancillary data from the camera to the Ki Pro which starts and stops, free run time-code from the camera is recorded onto the Mini.

Ki Pro Mini Firmware update 2.6 has corrected the Custom Clip Issue.
The up date can be found at:
https://www.aja.com/support/ki-pro/ki-pro-mini.phpImprovements and Fixes
• Removed the CUSTOM CLIP TAKE parameter from the Custom Clip Naming due to user confusion regarding functionality. Users can still create clips with custom names, but the names will always be appended with a take number. -
I was bitten by the same problem this past weekend; luckily I was using the F3 and double recording onto XDCAM SxS cards and doing my own media management. When I was offloading the first CF card I saw I only had one file on the card when there should have been 9. I stopped shooting and finally figured out what was going on. I know there is no excuse that you need to read the manual but I agree with Will Salley “I cannot imagine any situation where automatically erasing a file in the field is desirable”. Rental departments that rent the Ki Pro out sometimes may send the unit out without the 76 page instruction manual.
While we are on the subject of changes I have two other suggestions for Sales at AJA. A key lockout would be nice seeing when I’m operating the Ki Pro on my shoulder my head has from time to time bumped the keys and shut down the recorder and also some type of visual reference that when using a external evf on the camera the Ki Pro mini will send a visual reference to the evf telling you the card is full and that the Ki Pro has stopped recording.
As for sales no being very nice, I have not had any contact with them but I’ve been in touch with the tech support people at AJA and have to say they are some of the most helpful folks I’ve ever run into in the industry. -
Sorry about re-surfacing this thread, but I’m currently in the market for a new on camera light for an upcoming HD documentary shoot in Africa. The Ring Light Mini has 45FC at 5 feet (daylight) and the Kamio with a daylight ring is 29FC at 3 feet so the Ring light mini is a stronger light however the Ring Light mini weighs 3.5 pounds and the Kamio weighs around 1 pound with lamp. The power consumption is 40W with the Ring light and 37W with the Kamio. The price difference between the two is considerable with the Ring light priced at around $3000 and the Kamio 6E at $900. I’m hoping to just fill out the face a tinny bit while doing hand held interviews outdoors with a camera light where all of the subjects will be dark skinned. Has anybody had any experience with either of the lights and could offer up some advice?
Thanks
