Thanks…that’s what I figured. I archive the cards with Panasonic’s AVCCAM Viewer utility, which I believe maintains the cards file structure.

CS4 was the first version to accept AVCHD files. I also shoot with a HMC-150, and CS4 handles the files very well on a strong machine. You can also spend relatively small bucks on Cineform’s Neoscene which will convert your camera’s files in to a much more edit-friendly format.

Here is the pertinent license section from the HMC-150…

“This product is licensed under the AVC Patent Portfolio License for the personal and non-commercial use of a consumer, and no license is granted or shall be implied for any use other than the personal uses detailed below.
– To encode video in compliance with the AVC standard(“AVC Video”)

Doesn’t specify “playing out directly from the camera”. In fact, it only addresses “encoding to the AVC standard”. When you record, you encode to the AVC standard. If you charge for recording, therefore, encoding to the AVC standard, then you are in violation of the license agreement.

Now, I certainly don’t plan to immediately halt using my 150, and I sure don’t expect or advise anyone else to. Just thought it was interesting to note.

Pretty much my take as well. Since most of the cameras have the wording “professional’ and ‘professional use’ in their marketing materials and manuals, I’d have a hard time believing that any judge would find for them.

I mean, seriously, how many non-professional videographers attend NAB?

Strangely enough, we can use Telestream’s Wirecast to stream with the Intensity Pro with either WMV, Flash or H.264. This leads me to believe that the incompatibility with this card lies within WME itself.

I guess no one is successfully using an Intensity Pro card with WME. Strange that the Blackmagic documentation boasts “Improved compatibility is also included for Windows Media Encoder”, but a call to BlackMagic support showed that they don’t really ‘support’ such a combination at all, and couldn’t offer any information or direction to get the two to work together.

Guess it’s back to my old Osprey…

Yep, I’m quite familiar with RAID structure. I was just questioning whether the necessity of one in HD editing was specifically for the capture, or for the actual read during editing and render. We are soon to move to a solid state workflow, but we’d still receive HDV tapes from time to time from some of our contract videographers. I’ve had no problem with the tape capture to a single drive, but as I stated, playback(unrendered) stutters. I’m now pricing out some external RAID’s. Gonna be pricey for our 6 bays.

Hmmm…I wonder if you import a PPro sequence into AME for encode, does is automatically render the sequence before encoding? Something to try…
