Can you track the hand (or some details on the hand) and make the mask and the texture move with the hand? Usually with these kinds of shots the hand doesn’t really change that much so you don’t need to rotoscope the hand frame after frame. So the “still” mask layer AND the texture layer could probably follow along with the tracking data and that will glue the texture to the hand. You may also need to track the rotation – when people move they tend to pivot around a joint and not just move in the X and Y only.

    Hi Ron,
The user who hit inappropriate apologized – I guess the “reply” and “inappropriate” buttons were just a little too close together. He just hit the wrong one. I scratched my had for a while trying to read more into that post than I intended and just couldn’t figure out how it could be offensive. Thanks for making it right.

He ended up getting the post and all is well.

    Cheers

Here’s one of the links. Bear with it, we didn’t understand what the poster was after for a few back and forths.
The other thread isn’t popping out at me but I’ll keep looking – but it was within the last week, 2 at the max.

If you are in Ae2018 try purging all caches. It seems to gum up the works with regard to E3D’s textures.
Also you could try turning off the GPU in the prefs if you think the gfx card can’t handle it.

This has come up quite a bit in the last two weeks. The problem is that the expressions have no memory to speak of. So the only way to “remember” things is to calculate values for every frame starting at frame 0 and work your way up to t=now. And you have to do that for each frame. Which is doable – but by the time you get to 1 min on your time line you are doing 3600 calculations per frame (and that’s just for one attribute!)
The other problem is that there really isn’t a “speed” or velocity attribute because every frame calculates position (in any form) for that frame only. And speed of course has a time factor.
Have a wander back through the past two weeks of after effects and after effects expression forums. Dan had some good insights into this very problem.

  • It really depends on what you are trying to do. You can use Particular and imported OBJs to emit particles (I didn’t see that in the video), but Jim’s right, checkout Stardust as it works more like Element3D’s or C4d’s cloners with particles.

But if you have C4D and you are smashing the shapes in there, why not use TP or XP or something else to make the particles in a true 3D environment?

And while we’re here – can someone explain to me the fascination with compositing on to game footage. Not judging, I just see this a lot and wonder what its all about.

    Ah welcome to 2018.
Hit edit/purge All memory and Disk cache

  • If you aren’t using the version of the font that is already set to bold and instead using a “forced” bold, depending on the font, there may be some heavy rasterization issues going on there. That particular font may not be optimized.
Do you see the same results with other fonts forced to Bold?
Try a font that has a bold face and a Regular in the suitcase, but do a time test with a Regular face, and then force bold on to it, then turn off the forced bold and choose the Bold version of the font from the suitcase. Do you get the same kind of results as with Calibri? Does the suitcase Bold render faster than the forced bold?

What version are you in? You have direct control over spline nodes in 2017 but previous versions you had to use an external scripts like Mask Avenger (and a few others at aescripts.com)
    Here’s a tutorial in AE2017

How long is the timeline in iClone? Might you exporting animation data from frame zero to frame 6 million? That might account for the size of the file.
I see in another part of the Docs you can export from Iclone direct to c4dR18, is that what you are attempting?
