My apologies, it’s been pointed out that the link in my reply above is wrong, hopefully this works: https://www.audiovideopro.net/audio-test-nikon-d610-dslr/

Just a quick note to say I’ve now had a chance to test the D610 audio, courtesy of a review loan from Nikon.

The results (here: https://www.audiovideopro.net/audio-test-nikon-d610-dslr/) are broadly similar to those I found from testing the D800. The only difference with the new test is the addition of the Røde Video Mic Pro.

That test was, in itself, based on real-world sound recording experiences with the camera and the need to check those under controlled conditions.

For what it is worth, I use both a D800 and D600 for work.

I have also run similar tests with the D600, and with similar results. I would be happy to post these on Vimeo or elsewhere if there is enough interest.

Although I no longer have the camera, I found the audio on the D7000 was more acceptable using an external mic; I’ve not yet had a chance to test the D7100.

    Hi Ty

slipping out of sync is possible – the unit is about 12 years old now. It only has a 44.1 sample rate (which is what the rest of the gear was clocked to during the session but your suggestion’s prompted me to run further tests this week, as we sometimes record in 48, and under that scenario we don’t use the Denon but an even older Tascam DAT as a backup (but that’s a pro unit which is switchable 44.1/48). So it does seem to be the Denon deck. The test I will run later should confirm that.

    thanks for the pointers!

  • Thanks Petros

Trashing the prefs has indeed worked, so your advice was spot on.

As I work with various video formats (surely the point of FCP7) I’d be keen to know if there’s another workround, as if I have to move between, say, HDV or DVCAM from our Z1 and our DSRL footage and trash prefs in between it could become annoying quite quickly.

But at least I can finish this edit now!

  • I am having a similar problem with an 8-core Mac Pro (MacPro 3,1) – no external hardware other than a DVCAM deck, no expansion cards or drivers.

Audio slips significantly over even a 5 minute clip when I import audio from a separate sound recorder (at 48/24).

If I open the same clips on my MacBook Pro – using FCP’s default settings – I don’t have the issue at all.

I have tried setting the Default Sequence to ProRes 422 1280x720p (closest I can find to match video settings of the camera) but it doesn’t seem to help on the MacPro, whereas the laptop seems happy, whatever I throw at it.

    Any advice very welcome.
