Jeremy: the TC is being generated by the sound recordist’s hard drive recorder. I’ve just spoken to the sound recordist and the DoP and discovered that the sync on-set was done by reading the TC display and both trying to hit ‘REC’ simultaneously…
Daniel: I already knew what you were saying, but I appreciate your help anyway. They only used a slate in a few of the clips. If we can’t solve this problem any other way, then I’m going to have to go through each individual audio and video clip and sync them manually, using the method you describe.
Anyway, the DoP has re-examined his HVX and his FireStore and “discovered” some settings he didn’t know about, so the HVX will now have TC visible, and the FireStore will accept TC from the camera. There’ll be an offset between the camera and the audio, but it should be consistent across all the clips.
We’ll see if it works.
