January 19, 2015 at 7:26 pm in reply to: is there a way to set up a tempo and automatically generate composition markers? There was someone who did a script for laying out musical tempo markers and posted here but his website is down since then.
I Find it strange that i can’t find anything on the web, maybe my search keywords are wrong, this kind of thing is essential for traditional animation.

Thanks!
Yes that would do the trick, probably with a null object tracked on the foot, since the animated figure is an image sequence.
I didn’t even notice there is a expressions forum, sorry. I’m kind of new here.
Thank you Chris!

Thank you both Dave and Richard, actually, i’ve been playing around since i posted and i’ll probably end up using both of the techniques you suggested.
Thank you for replying!

just to try to clarify a bit:
I don’t want to actually project the shadows on the walls, the posted image is a composite, the figures in front are not in 3D space. What i’m trying is to wrap a video sequence on a three dimensional object. I would later match it with the figures in the final comp.
Sorry if my explanation is unclear.

September 18, 2014 at 7:15 pm in reply to: Problem with SWF file generated in Toon BoomOk, for anyone who encounters a similar problem, I found that the solution was actually posted earlier here on Creative Cow:
“I think I’ve found a solution to this rather annoying issue (in CS6 at least, haven’t tried with 5.5 or lower): You just need to disable “Write XMP IDs to Files on Import” in Media & Disk Cache preferences. I’m not sure how important this setting is, but it seems to stop swfs from being wiped when you reload/update them.”
It worked for me!

I’m familiar with this already but my animation is not scripted at all and everything is on top level timeline.
Might be something related to toon boom.
In addition to what i wrote in the first post, now I noticed some really strange behavior: the swf files are playing properly in flash player/debugger but the moment i import them in AE they stop at one point and then the playback in flash player starts playing them with the same bug, meaning they freeze at the same moment but the clips duration is unchanged.
Strange indeed, I’m testing some new files generated from other toon boom projects to see if this is general occurrence or just a glitch related to this file.
Never had this problem before.
Thanks!

September 16, 2014 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Problem with SWF file generated in Toon BoomThanks Dave, I think you are right and i will try your suggestion.
I have already found somebody who posted a similar question on the toon boom forum but nobody answered the thread. That’s why I was hoping somebody here would maybe have a quick fix answer.
The only thing i found so far, on another forum, is somebody recommending to export image sequences from toon boom as default procedure but that, for me at least, beats the purpose of using vector software since i prefer drawing and animating in a nice bitmap program called TVPaint. I’m using toon boom only because of flexibility in terms of scaling which comes with vector files which are crucial for my current project.
Thanks for the reply!
Cheers,
Spiridon

“Some people just keep saving over the same project file, again and again.”
Guilty as charged. I’m looking into Autosave and Save and Increment functions.
Thank’s for the sound advices! I must admit that i’m really a pedestrian in AE, relying on the skills i learned ten or more years ago. Much to be learned!
Again, thanks a lot Walter!

That’s what I’m wondering also!
My worry is that a large number of comps will, at some point, slow down the whole AE project.
I’m not planning to have all the hundreds of precomps in one short sequence, it is not a question of complexitiy.
It is just to have them all in one project where i will eventually lay them down on a timeline to see how the whole thing flows. To not have to go back and forth between sony vegas which I’m using for editing and AE. And also to reuse some comps, like texture and background animation in the separate shots.
The final editing will be done in Vegas, of course.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Am I planing this whole thing wrong?
