  • Hi Jon,

I mean “combing” effect not “combining”. Its a distortion that interlaced footage sometimes displays – subtle horizontal lines with a comb-like effect are visible across the image and the image is not as high resolution as it should be.

Someone suggested to me this morning that the field order is messed up but I’m not sure how to fix that because between source and the final DVD there are many stages in which field order can be chosen along the way.

I do know that my source footage is top field first, and that my Premiere Pro 2.0 project is based on a default setting of NTSC Widescreen 48k with LOWER field first. Maybe that is my problem? In my current project which is now 90 minutes long and full of complicated clip edits, PP2 won’t let me change this – the options to do so under “project settings’ are “greyed” out. It seems you have to decide that stuff when you first create the project – you are given the option of customizing from the project template.

Re. your question about export settings: yes I do export the avi file at 29.97fps. and regardless of whether I choose upper, lower or progressive field order in PP2, Encore can’t seem to author a final disc from the avi file without lines/combing and a generally lower res image.

I can grab an image tonight when I get home and post it – for now I hope that’s enough info for you. thanks.
