    Curtis,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Is there any reasonably easy way to write the script without actually buying and learning Adobe Flash? I use Sorenson Squeeze 4.3 to compress my videos. They do offer a few control panel frames for Flash output, but the autoplay function is disabled. Looks like you can edit the look of the frames with Adobe Flash, but I’m not sure if you can enable the autoplay.

Thanks Tom. I figured out the part about rippling back the nested sequences after I sent in the question. Then I thought, this can apply to the clips with short handles, too. Basically you can put the clip in its own sequence, extend the freeze frames, then nest that sequence wherever you want. It’s a long workaround, but hopefully I won’t have to use it much.

Is there any way to work around not having handles for transitions? I’m sure there have been times when you want to put a transition right at the end or beginning of a clip. In PremierePro, the program simply extends the first (or last) frame of a clip to fill the handle requirement. So you have a still picture during part of the transition, but it’s usually not noticeable.

Also, is it possible to add transitions to nested sequences? I was not able to do this, even when there were handles available in the last and first clips of adjoining sequences.

Thanks Tom. Not only am I new to FCP, but I’m also new to Macs. So I’m struggling a little here, but I’m sure it will get easier with experience. I am grateful that I’m able to get help from people like you and Creative Cow.

I think a history palette would be a great addition to FCP, so I’ll head over to Apple’s website and make a suggestion.

Wow, that’s a lot of work to keep the names synchronized. Wouldn’t it be easier, at the end of the project, to use the Media Manager to move all the used media files to one folder and rename them automatically to match the names in the browser?

    Thanks for the quick replies!

Matte – I found that renaming the clips in the browser has no effect on the original media files on disk. When you rename (or move) the original files is when you lose the connection.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

One more thing. Does the MacPro support the 750GB disks? The specs only list 500GB, but I see some vendors listing the 750GB as an option.

    Jerry,

Thanks for the reply. This will be my first Mac, so I’m still not sure about a lot of things.

I’ll be mostly using it to edit DVCPRO HD (from HDX200), mostly just 1-2 layers. Some effects, and some color correction.

I’m planning to get 2GB RAM. Is that enough? Would it be worthwhile to upgrade to the X1900XT graphics card? I know Motion uses the graphics engine a lot, and I’d like to use some of those effects.

I’m thinking of getting a MacPro and 3 HDD’s, too. Would it be better to get an external RAID enclosure and use RAID 5? Which interface works better, eSATA or FW800?

Yes the results would be pretty much the same, but different size video. However, the data storage would be different. In 720p 24p, the camera stores only 24 frames per second. In 1080i 24p, the camera spreads the 24 frames over 30 frames, and stores 30 frames per second. There are 2 ways to spread the 24 frames over 30 frames, called 24pN and 24pA (normal and advanced). The Adam Wilt article gives a good explanation.
