I used QT, exported PAL DV – 1024 x 576. Progressive.
They are mentioning that playback on their PC they get the wrong aspect ratio : https://i.imgur.com/JNmMsOE.png
Whereas on mac its fine: https://i.imgur.com/iVJCYsd.png
Its clear to me that whats happening is on mac the computer sees the anamorphic tag and displays the video at the correct 1024 x 576 whereas on PC its not & displaying it at 720 x 576, which messes up all the proportions of the video.
Just found out its not a projector they use but a giant LED screen.
Their PC”s are really old so that might be the issue, my concern is that will it play back ok (seeing the anamorphic tag) on the giant LED as it does on the mac… and not as it does on the PC?

Yeah thats what had me confused as I originally sent a Pal DV and they sent back saying “note we require 1024×576 in dv25″….
Are you suggesting i should just send over the original size pro res source (1920 x 1080) converted to pal dv without resizing.
Or send it in 720×576 pal dv?
Or could they possibly mean HDV format?

Ah ok thanks that makes sense.
Given that they’ve asked for 1024×576 – to be played on a projector. Is it more likely that what they actually want is 720×576?
I’m assuming a projector won’t see the anamorphic tag the computer sees and display the video with dodgy looking proportions.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated

Ok I think thats pretty much what I sent them on the first go around. They came back specifically asking for 1024×576 anamorphic in dv25
I just exported the pro res again as DV PAL, 1024 x 576, progressive
These are the results when I ‘get info’ in qt : https://i.imgur.com/ZbHoTzo.png
Whilst it says 1024 x 576 (actual) in the format area it says 720×576 and (1023×576)…. really confused here.

Ok thats what I thought, I just tried exporting the 1920×1080 pro res using qtpro 7
Settings :
DVCPRO – PAL
frame rate : 25
Scan mode : Progressive
Aspect : 16×9
Size: 1024 x 576and it came out at 1024 x 576 🙂
Thanks man, I have to say some of the colors are a bit off on logos etc, but I guess thats just the DV compression

I assume he means the letterbox type effect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSzy9qQ3mDE
I’d probably use motion and animate some layer masks with behaviours and keyframes, but i don’t know if thats the best way

Thanks, I’m not sure whether they want PAL or NTSC (I’ll ask), is NTSC also default to 720×576?
The project is being played on some sort of projector, what confuses me given your info though is that they asked for
“dv25 at 1024×576”
Is this an impossibility?

Awesome, thanks. I’ll give this a shot, free is always best. Kinda surprised at the lack of software for this tbh

Thanks, gave that a whirl and it looks a lot better, still a lot more distorted in comparison to the ogv and m4v versions. There’s also a watermark which for the life of me i cant work out how to remove, there doesn’t seem to be a register option in the app?

for reference, i was converting from h264 which produced really low res results, I’ll try pro res also
