    I’m being asked to deliver some video in dv25, don’t have any previous experience with this codec as 90% of my work is for the web so did a bit of googling and found that DV, DVCam, DVCPro and Digital 8 are ALL DV25 formats… So I’m not sure which to use, I’ll contact them and ask for specifics

    But for now, I tried exporting at DVCPRO 1024×576, 25 fps using quicktime pro 7 (source is in pro res is 1920 x 1080 ) following this tutorial which refers to “dv25” as “dvcpro ntsc”

    However for some reason, the exported video is smaller ?

    Also – if i try to export using “dv stream” in compressor, the size option is greyed out and forced at a smaller size – https://i.imgur.com/ZA2N8C1.png

    Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

    Pal DV is 720×576.
    The only problem is that QT do not display other than Squared pixels and the picture looks distorted.
    So if the picture is to be displayed on computers, is OK that you make 1024×576, but if you have been asked standard DV, leave it at 720×576.
    The picture will be properly displayed when interpreted as PAL DV Anamorphic.

    Thanks, I’m not sure whether they want PAL or NTSC (I’ll ask), is NTSC also default to 720×576?

    The project is being played on some sort of projector, what confuses me given your info though is that they asked for

    “dv25 at 1024×576”

    Is this an impossibility?

    If you are working at 25fps you are in PAL lands.
    NTSC is 720×480 (DV formats), or 720×486.

    Ok thats what I thought, I just tried exporting the 1920×1080 pro res using qtpro 7

    Settings :

    DVCPRO – PAL
    frame rate : 25
    Scan mode : Progressive
    Aspect : 16×9
    Size: 1024 x 576

    and it came out at 1024 x 576 🙂

    Thanks man, I have to say some of the colors are a bit off on logos etc, but I guess thats just the DV compression

    Give them a DV-Pal QT. They will handle the rest. The switcher they are using will rescale it for the projectors.

    Sure, that will look perfect on your computer, but is not standard DV.
    If the movie will be reedited with other DV stuff, broadcasted or used for a DVD, it wont pass.
    AND DON”T USE DVCPRO, that’s a completely different codec.
    Use Apple DV PAL.

    Ok I think thats pretty much what I sent them on the first go around. They came back specifically asking for 1024×576 anamorphic in dv25

    I just exported the pro res again as DV PAL, 1024 x 576, progressive

    These are the results when I ‘get info’ in qt : https://i.imgur.com/ZbHoTzo.png

    Whilst it says 1024 x 576 (actual) in the format area it says 720×576 and (1023×576)…. really confused here.

    Actual is the size that is being shown. But the encoded pixels are 720x 576. DV is a fixed codec (s). 720×480 or 720×576. Anything else and you’ll get errors or problems. When you encoded your 16×9 it squeezed it horizontally into 720×576. The computer sees that it has an anamorphic tag and displays it correctly at 1024×576.

    Ah ok thanks that makes sense.

    Given that they’ve asked for 1024×576 – to be played on a projector. Is it more likely that what they actually want is 720×576?

    I’m assuming a projector won’t see the anamorphic tag the computer sees and display the video with dodgy looking proportions.

    Create what I said. They will scale it up to their dimensions
