Here’s what I’d suggest.
Make your source layer with the throw behavior into a group if it isn’t already. Clone the group and then inside the new group change the Timing/End Condition of the new clone layer to Loop and on the timeline drag out the clone layer as long as you want the loop to last.

Once you’ve applied the key to it it will automatically have an alpha channel but you will need to make sure you Share/Export as ProRes4444 in order to embed the alpha. Or you could export an Image Sequence in one of the file formats that support alpha (which I think is all of the available options bar JPEG).

Try using the new Makeup Artist plug-in from Sheffield Softworks available through FXFactory 3.0.3. In my view it is a very big improvement on Cosmo and it should work now.

This is pretty amazing news. Fusion is a really powerful top-of-the-range compositing tool that’s a real pleasure to use. Having it inside AVID is phenomenal. I can see eyeon eating back some of Nuke’s feature film market share with this – although it’s currently very much in Nuke’s shadow that’s not because it’s inferior.

Duplicate the source layer and apply a blur to it – then use a mask to reveal the unblurred version as required.

The two most obVIous things which you don’t mention (but you possibly know already) are a) to blur the photos as they are almost certainly way too sharp in relation to your video footage, and b) to add noise or grain, as your video will have plenty and it’s the one thing the eye picks up on immediately if it’s missing. It only needs to be sutble but it just has to be there.
Another trick which probably isn’t right for you here give that you talk about a locked-off shot is to give it a hand held look. By far the nicest and most believable way of achieving this is to take any video camera (your phone will do if necessary) and (hand held) shoot a decent duration of an easily trackable image. Then all you need to do is add that new footage as a layer, motion track it to extract its movement and then link the still to that tracked movement (obviously hiding the refernce video in the process).

You’re not kidding – it’s really hard for me to remember this new nomenclature. I have to refresh my understanding of Trim/Crop every single time. Somehow my brain can’t take in the notion that Crop now means “Crop plus Resize” to fit and Trim now means what Crop always used to mean. I even had to re-check before I typed that!
