    Mike-

It is one of FCPXs many ridiculous quirks I’m afraid. I’m not sure if there’s some sort of import setting you can change, but it doesn’t do it with me all the time, just now and again. It is rather daft isn’t it. I had the same problem when I was importing R3D Footage through Red Cine X, so it’s not a quirk limited to FCPX it seems. With that though, I could just batch everything to up the saturation. Surely there’s a way to do that on FCPX?

I hope it doesn’t waste too much of your time!

    Hi Mike,

I don’t want to sound patronising (because many people on here can be just that), but have you checked the colour adjustment settings for the clip? I had a weird instance where it automatically desaturated everything and maximised the exposure. I just set them all back to the defaults and it was fine.

Failing that, check the blend mode in the compositing settings of the clip.

    Hope this helps.

The video file works in every other piece of video software I have; after effects, fcp 7, Premiere and even compressor, just not fcpx, so I’m not having that there’s something wrong with the file (I’m a very stubborn chap). I thought there might be something up with my import settings, but it’s obviously just another bug in fcpx.

Anyways, I re-exported it as a prores 4444 and it works now, so at least it’s sorted. I’m just beginning to really hate how temperamental this piece of software is.

Well the footage isn’t for broadcast so that really isn’t what I’m asking. I’m wondering why the pre-rendered footage in the canvas is dramatically different to when it gets rendered. Basically I’m trying to establish what codec to use to get my video looking like it does it the canvas before it gets rendered.

I spend ages applying effects and such; I get it looking cool then I render it in FCP and it looks completely different. It’s like I’m blindly applying effects and hoping for the best.
