No it’s the same ProRes rushes I always work with.
I have discovered I can make it work by using the text tab under the Effects menu – just not the one under the viewer window, Why? Who knows. FCP bug maybe. At least I have found a way to get the captions in. Thanks for your help. -
So – I’ve managed to download and apply preferences manager, emptied trash – problem is still the same. No matter which project I open, the captions come up with a green line over them , so I render them, and there’s nothing there.
This is a severely disabling issue so I would really appreciate any help from any quarter! THanks

Unfortunately my computer won’t accept the ‘preference manager’ software – it says it’s not from an Apple registered developer. I am completely baffled by this happening and a bit distraught, because I really need to add these captions as a matter of urgency. Can you possibly guide me how to ‘trash my preferences’ without this software? REally sorry to bother you but would be so grateful for any help.

Only because I’ve taken a fixed-price job with no deadline in order to teach myself to edit better. You can have time if you don’t mind having no money. When I started directing documentaries, I’d go out with a camera operator and assistant, sound operator and often assistant, PA and myself. These days, it seems to be a choice of doing it myself or not doing it. I don’t want to stop!

Thanks Dave – the image of working at that speed is boggling to me in my current state but I am sure that many of the editors I’ve worked with over the past 35 years would have used it!

Hello again
I now have the XDCam log and transfer plug in (which I already had in fact and is clearly what I need) and also the XDCam Browser, which I’m not sure I need as it seems to be a way of viewing and organising. However, there is still one last hurdle, which is that when I import XDCam files into Final Cut (they do play and they do have their timne of day code still, which is great) I can’t work out how to import them into the appropriate bit of the project – I just end up with a mass of clips not in any bin which I then have laboriously to move one by one into the right place. I’m sure there’s a really simple setting or other step I need to take but can’t figure it out.
At the risk of totally exhausting your patience – any ideas?

Thank you – I do have something called XDCam Transfer but I haven’t been using it because I can’t work out how to output to Apple ProRes 422LT.mov codec, which is apparently what I need.
Meanwhile I can view my rushes in FCP with the original time of day timecode, even on the transcoded files which is good, and obviously I’d like therefore to keep that timecode for when I start to edit.
I have now emailed Sony support in the hope they may be able to help too.If you have the patience to help further re the Sony plugin that would be wonderful.
