Sorry, that was badly worded (really long week). Microsoft licenses Windows so it can run on a Mac.

Someone much smarter than me (not hard to find BTW) would have to answer that question. Although, I was mostly eluding to the fact that Apple doesn’t license OSX… subtly making my case that they are less interested in cross platform compatibility than Microsoft… which obviously licenses Windows to Apple. 🙂

Yes, isn’t Apple’s willingness (or not) to license or openly document APfs fair game? I was just agreeing with Oliver that it probably isn’t. 🙂

Well, I think all the OS vendors are interested in cross-platform compatibility, at least to the extent where by providing it they enable you to stay mainly on their platform. ;-)”

Sure, but sometime they let their friends look at pictures of you sleeping… for a small fee. 🙂 Kidding aside, cloud services providers and social media platform owners are still trying to find that line between helpful and creepy, while also finding “innovative” ways to monetize the metadata about you and your files. I completely agree with you about Dropbox, but Google… never say anything in Gmail that you don’t want to get advertising about.

Well… Amazon, Microsoft, Google and others… but its a great point. There are certainly people who want all of your processing to live on their platforms while your data flows into the hands of their clients – many of those people also believe you should pay a subscription fee for those privileges…

I’ve been using Premiere since v4.0, and this was the perception for most of those years. I admit, it really was that bad for a while, but I think Premiere’s reputation was more important than it’s capabilities to a lot of people for a long time. I mostly worked in corporate production though, so Premiere skills on Windows was a lot more marketable… it paid well, but you were NOT getting cool points for that kind of work. 🙂

All true David, but it’s also true that PPro still had a huge stigma attached to the name at the very moment that FCP7 was EOL’d. I actually had two editors get angry with me for even suggesting that they try Premiere Pro as a possible replacement for FCP7 at the time. Ironically, they’re both now PPro users after having decided that Avid didn’t suit the way they preferred to work… go figure. I could see purchasing FCP7 more for the installed user base and the halo effect, than the actual technology.
