Success! Before I got a chance to try your recommendation, we just copied everything to a new timeline and woohoo it worked. Guess it was just a corrupt timeline.

    Thanks Russ,

Hi, Russ, just got home and read this. I’m not sure what you mean by tho – the original audio file or the imported file before it goes to the timeline? I guess those are good things to look at since I’m going there tomorrow. Unfortunately, I’m still kind of new at this, and have more experience with Avid, anyway. I’m not even sure I’ll be able to figure out how to open it in qt from fce – unless you do mean open it before it’s imported. I’ll try a bunch of things if I can.

I’ll let you know what happens. I’m hoping that it’s just something to do with the import and if the guy can find the original audio file and I can re-import it into FCE 5 it will work.

Eternal optimist that I am 🙂

    Thanks for the help,
    Sharon

Thanks, Mark. Based on your ee (and the one before) I bit the bullet. Saved some good bucks and now, phew, there’s a whole lot of learning goin’ on . . .

Sorry to take so long here . . . Thanks for all this good info, I’m still absorbing it. Based on your post (and the one following) I went ahead and bought the Production Suite. Not only did I want the student discount while I can get it, but we had a tax-free weekend so it saved me a few more bucks.

Now, I’m trying to figure out/decide about dual booting, hoping I can keep my editing system pristine, but still be able to do all my other stuff, i.e. evil internet complications, without harm.

    Thanks, again,
    Sharon

Thanks for this info, Peter. My display is indeed 1900×1200 so I guess I’m okay. And I did notice that although my case is marked with E1705, when I check System Properties it does say 9400. So, all I have to do now is get PP and Avid XP to run on it . . .

    Thanks,

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1705 and am nervous about it. I ordered by phone and said I wanted a 9400. He insisted the 1705 was identical and he had to “use it” to get me the coupon deals. I had expected to get a computer that said 9400 on it, not 1705. I got the components I wanted (2.16 GB, 100MB 7200, Geoforce, etc) but I seem to recall reading that the two were not 100% identical. Does anyone know the real story here?

    Thanks,
    Sharon

P.S. I don’t know if I should post this elsewhere, but wondering what people use to keep the system clean as far as installing/uninstalling programs (i.e., Clean Sweep, etc). Tks.
