Premiere does an excellent job of upscaling…and 720p to 1080p isn’t that far. It’ll look fine.
(I use it for SD to HD conversions on occasion)

Desaturation…blur vignette…composite in some floaty graphic type things like RAMPANT DESIGN makes. Or desaturate, vignette, add a little camera shake and flicker (much like that bourne clip).

The nMP was last updated like 3 years ago…so it’s 3 years old, but still full priced. An iMac Pro is a far better deal, and more powerful. But I do know more than a few people using a regular 5K iMac to cut 4K on Premiere…just fine. Personally, I built a hackintosh…but that takes time and patience.

No. Nor will it work in Adobe Premiere or Resolve without being choppy. Unless you drop thousands of dollars on graphics cards, lots of RAM, and a very fast processor to decode this on the fly.

Welcome to the world of post….where things take time. Always have….it’s part of the business. You were just talking about converting with MPEG STREAMCLIP…that takes time too. And for not huge files, use the offline/online workflow. Or…get bigger and more hard drives…they aren’t too expensive.

You are taking a highly compressed camera original format and converting it to an editable format…file sizes will increase. Because editing formats need specific settings in order to make editing easier. Sure, you CAN edit some camera original formats natively, but they take lots of system resources to “decode” them on the fly. Converting to editing codecs means no decoding needed, therefore it’s easier to edit. But this transcoding increases the data rate, thus making them larger.
DNx36 is an “offline resolution,” meaning it’s meant only for saving space…it’s not a final quality resolution.
You have two options…either convert to high quality DNxHD or DHxHR…or go the offline/online route…cutting in low quality and relinking to the masters later and transcoding to high res when done. The offline/online method would mean doing the importing and converting with Avid, or Resolve…MPEG STREAMCLIP can’t be part of that workflow.
But if you go full res, then you’ll need to make those transcoded files the new masters. You can convert to an XDCAM codec, as Avid media. But you can’t use MPEG STREAMCLIP for that, you’ll have to use Avid or Resolve…and then things get complicated…

Yup…iphones and iPods and iPads saved them. Sure glad I bought stock in Apple BEFORE the iPod came out. My $300 investment turned into a down payment for a house.

What certain effect is that? How it looks like film? Well, you’ll need an old film element you can overlay onto your footage…RAMPANT DESIGN is one place to get that. And then you crop it to 4:3 to make it look 16mm or 8mm…speed it up…wash it out…add the film effect and use the BLEND MODE: OVERLAY.
