i did try it with the media drive disconnected. all my media is on my G-RAID.
i copied the project file to my desktop, disconnected the G-RAID and tried to open the the project file.

    no dice.

this mac pro is my only machine right now.

thanks for sticking with me on this by the way…

and Andy, i actually exported an mov from my timeline in FCP and re-imported it into the same timeline.
this worked just for a while. i saved about 10 times after that and then found out later all those saves were broken.

yes. i can open the program itself on its own and i can also open all other projects that were made before i exported and re-imported that mov file.

    how do you mean?

i forgot to mention that i trashed all my render files as well.

also i only added one new file to the project today. i had exported a piece of a nested sequence (using in out point in the sequence and using file>export>quicktime movie. then i re-imported it and did inserted in into my sequence and changed its speed.

i’ve noticed that every project file since i did that gives me the ” this project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of final cut ” error.

i’m stumped because as i mentioned i’ve tried opening the bad project files off my system drive w/o having my G-Raid ( which contains all the fcp files for said projects ) plugged in.

is it possible that that mov that exported and re-imported corrupted all the project files it was associated with? btw that mov file opens and plays just fine in QT.

thanks again for any ideas/suggestions any of you may have.

nope. i’m running 6.0.5 on leopard 10.5.6 and this just happened to me.

i’ve been working on the same project all day. i save incrementally as i go along ( 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. ).

i came back from a dinner break and all of the sudden i couldn’t open the last 10 or so of my project files (or their corresponding autosave files). this means my whole 10 hour day of work down the drain unless any one has any clue what else i can do.

i have trashed my prefs, repaired my permissions 5 times, tried to open the project files as a different user, my get info tab for the G-Raid that my projects are on has the ignored permissions… checkbox checked,
duplicated the project file, copied the project file to my system drive and tried to open it there w/o my G-Raid connected, and the proj files were all very well organized etc, i know what i’m doing.

PLEASE HELP!!! i’ve looked all over the place and i can seem to find any solution that works for me.

    thanks in advance.
