Yes, it is progress. At least I don’t feel like I’m completely losing my mind. I didn’t know what I was doing wrong. I would bring the source file into Premiere and then to make sure that the Sequence was setup just right, I would drag the icon over the new sequence button and let it do it all automatic. So I thought if the machine was doing it, then there was no way of messing up. I guess I was wrong. I’ll try your workarounds and show you the results later tonight. Too bad we need work-arounds in such a cool piece of software — I was really loving on the 5.5 Premiere and making the switch from FCP, but now I’m not so sure if I have to jerry-rig everything.

I followed your directions used Interpret Footage to change Source to 1.3333:

    Type: QuickTime Movie
    File Size: 23.6 MB
    Image Size: 960 x 720
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz – 16 bit – Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz – 32 bit floating point – Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:43:18
Average Data Rate: 552 KB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0 (1.3333)

    …and the Sequence setting is:

    Sequence 02
    1280 x 720
    00;00;43;18, 29.97 fps
    48000 Hz – Stereo

…and the results were both good and bad. The good was that the sides didn’t pinch in automatically. The bad was that the picture is stretched:

The rendered version is in Premiere itself. I tried to upload a screenshot.
