remember we are talking about laying a .mov exported video onto the premiere timeline. it would become choppy. when we layed it on Final Cut 10x it ran fine. for FC we had a MacBook Pro. For Premiere we were on a brand new machine which we never even plugged into the internet to avoid viruses. so whatever codec he installed …. worked. by the way, we still use the same machine. no issues at all with premiere since. just a strange story from the past with a Russian solution.

    Guys,

Wow long time ago it seems I made that posting. So here is what the culprit was by the way … CODECS. Apparently I somehow had deleted the right codecs. A Russian programmer buddy of mine (who barely spoke English) kept saying codecs, codecs, codecs. While I repeated … no, NEW COMPUTER … IT TURNED out he was right. He re-installed some codecs and WHAM the footage ran smoothly on premiere’s timeline!! thanks everyone!

still dumbfounded why NOTHING plays smoothly with my BRAND NEW PREMIERE, BRAND NEW COMPUTER. VERY VERY STRANGE. I am wondering if perhaps it is because my HD is almost full? I did load large file video onto the machine. In other news … the MAC Book Pro and FCP10 kicks ass …

not that adobe people want to hear this; but …. guess what was the easiest thing to do? import into FCP 10! From there … video ran SMOOTH as butter. Added extra audio track and voila … exported my heart’s desire. WHY doesn’t premiere act like that? I had to use a MAC Book Pro when the computer I have the latest premiere on is faster and dedicated to just this. Man … I must give it to Apple!

i have the file exported out as an AVID DNxHD.

I also transcoded a very small version of the file 90MB just to test it. Same thing !! Again it just doesn’t ‘want to go’! I opened file to preview in media browser and presto! It runs smoothly there as small thumbnail. When back in premiere. Same sluggness again.

I followed your direction from up top. Same problem. Its just really really wierd !!

this is really ridiculous. in Premiere Pro CS5 back in the day you could export out and then bring something into a timeline no problem. i have a BRAND NEW MACHINE, NOTHING ELSE on the computer, and now this ridiculous stupid program won’t smoothly play my videos? What the heck is up with Premiere?

the video we have is direct from the tricaster which gave us a line cut. that line cut is 29.97 frames 1920 x 1080.

what should i do? frame rates should all be consistent at 29.97. it’s not just a bit choppy either … it takes forever to begin. this is a computer where everything was wiped out. again, when put into VLC or QT plays perfectly. file sizes 4 GB and 13 GB for MPEG2

still choppy. not sure if previous post went up. first time i use this forum. in any case, the files again are smooth when exported but it is nearly impossible to edit because both preview and in timeline the video is extremely choppy. frustrating

still choppy. very frustrating. the reason i exported was because the original project had so many hd’s all wired up to computer. video was smooth before the export within the timeline. then when exported, video still smooth. now with a brand new project (after restarting computer) … when PPO asks to ‘match settings’ I say yes … video remain choppy both on timeline and in preview monitor. really strange. no other programs running in the background. no viruses on the computer.
