No. I personally lost a lot of time fiddling around with this tool. I think it depends on your needs, but in some cases I think you need a dedicated 3d app for this kind of thing.

    Thank you for responding.

I am talking about earth dogs. Dogs don’t run flat-footed, so their foot/paw articulates and touches the ground at the ball of the foot, instead of the ankle. This means I have one more joint. The same goes for hands. I count 3 digits per finger plus 1 that goes the the wrist.

I have followed the tutorials and have been working with this rig to animate human characters for a month now. I think i’m just running into a limitation of the script. I’m starting to understand why people use Maya to animate things seemingly as simple as southpark.

As i said, AE does not recognize sub-layers. You need to drag your ‘released layers’ out of their parent layer before AE will recognize them as individual layers. My technique is to do type layout in AI and then use that as a template to rebuild the text in AE. Ideally, AE would let you ‘convert to editable text’ with AI artwork, but for the time-being, that’s only available to PSD artwork.

  • AE will import AI artwork layer by layer. So if all you text is on one layer, AE will import that text as one object. AE doesn’t recognize groups or sublayers. If you want to animate text word by word (or even character by character) you’ll have to distribute your words or characters across unique layers before you import it into AE. For the record, AE has very powerful text animation tools. You might be better off generating your text directly from within AE. Anyone who does any serious text animation by importing AI artwork is sort of a chump.

it’s difficult to determine what is wrong with your “settings” without seeing what where you are. You might want to post something for people to look at.
